3.9 AVERAGE

There are so many aspects of this story to love and I was really looking forward to it, but it felt skeletal to me -- missing in the details and tension that would allow me to really sink into the story. I had to push myself to keep reading. After putting it down for a few weeks, I still can't get into it so I am stopping halfway through.

I didn't enjoy how the historical background was in exposition paragraphs. It was interesting scenery but it broke the pace

Mainly, this one isn't for me.  A little too young adult with romance.
slow-paced

It took me so long to read this book! I just kept losing interest and picking up other books. It may be my fault because of that, that I didn’t like this book as much as I thought I would. I loved a lot of the imagery in this book, it felt like such a magical setting. I did think there would be a little more falling in love, but that’s fine. Would’ve been nice though 🙈

Not always a style of writing I particularly enjoy - telling rather than showing. In particular, this style led to some repetition of description and internal dialogue of characters. However, I really enjoyed this story and its incorporation of Mayan lore and history. Casiopea is a wonderful character and her relationship/interaction with Hun-Kame is fascinating and resulted in a plot that was difficult to predict, which made the book that much more engaging.

I loved this book so much! The combination of the 20s plus Mayan myth was so unique. I enjoyed the slow development of the main characters relationships. Honestly I was sad when it was all over.

The pace was to slow for me. It started off good but then as they started traveling to their destination it started feeling slow
