My first book told from a dog's perspective.

Ok, maybe if I knew it was so short I wouldn't have been so disappointed but I felt it stopped short when it should have just got going. Good, but not my favourite London.

One of few books that has the power to move me the same now as it did when I first read it two score years ago.

Pulling together / leaping forward as one dog, love of the toil ... London so completely communicates the feeling of belonging and subsuming oneself to the effort of the group and the addictive nature of physical exertion. I confess thoughts of Buck and his fellow teammates have sprung often into my head during distance races, and hard days at work - days that are hard, but satisfying because of everyone pitching in, pulling their weight and getting the job done.

Of course this isn't the main plot of the book, but it's the one that has endeared it to me most.

It had been a whole, and I was surprised how many whole passages live rent free in my head.

RIP Jack London. You would have lived the Primitivist eco-fascists and Paleo diet fads.

Given the pending release of yet another theatrical rendition of this film, I figured I’d finally read it. Nope, never had to read it in middle or high school.

Not a bad book, but I was caught off-guard by the point of view of the narrator. I seriously had no idea. And I’m not gonna give you details either. It was an okay adventure novel but I had trouble relating to any of the characters. They were mostly castaway support roles, which I also did not expect. Oh well.

I wonder if I would like it better now that it isn't required reading...
