I did not particularly enjoy this book. In fact, about 2/3 of it was brutal and featured abuse of dogs. However, I gave it 2.5 stars rounded up to 3, because 1.) It was written in 1903, and 2.) It was set during the 1890 Klondike Gold Rush. Taking those two things into consideration, this book is probably fairly accurate, even if it was hard to read.
Read this with my 12 (nearly 13) year old son. He said it was a really good book full of adventure that got a little wordy and confusing near the end. Caution: it has animal abuse/cruelty and violence. Would recommend no younger than age 12.
Ugh. I don't like London's writing style at all. And the perspective shifts are so annoying.
A truly gripping tale of how ancestry is always within us, no matter how hard we try to stamp it out.

I don't remember Into the Wild mentioning that this book's protagonist was a dog. Nonetheless, a highly recommended engaging read.
