The first half of this, fighting against some ultra-powerful reborn pantheon, was mostly self-explanatory. The second half completely confused me. This is one of those examples of a "Volume 1" that is not even close to being a starting point for the title. It starts off vaguely establishing that the Guardians have just returned from some strenuous event and need some RnR time. But it doesn't explain why the flark suddenly Groot is speaking in full sentences but the others are just able to say "I am _____," except maybe when Groot's not around and they talk normally? I don't know. That's just not the kind of thing to throw into a first volume of a new run without some introductory exposition to catch the reader up. I don't know anything about this Perfect Hero World that apparently has variants of different characters existing on the same world now either.

What I loved most was the final issue, focusing on Moondragon and her double/variant. I want to learn more about her, but I was really counting on the good writing of Al Ewing allowing me to jump on at this point without needing to catch up on the last however many years.

Just okay. I haven’t read a Guardians book regularly in a while, but I have been making my way through Al Ewing’s back catalog, and I also hoped this may help provide more context to SWORD. It doesn’t. It seems to be building on top of much of what Cates did, and I think I only read and issue or two of that to help understand Silver Surfer Black.

This was absolutely fantastic. The pacing, the story-telling and the characterisation were all spot-on. I loved Moon Dragon and Phyla-Vell's dedication to one another and how they were on-the-page described as wives; and I also absolutely adored Noh-Varr. This was so great and I can't wait to get caught up with this run.

This is a book I really could've enjoyed, but this is the second Al Ewing run where I've felt like I've been thrown into the middle of an ongoing story. I'll see if I can keep up as things go on.

Ewing picks up the plotlines from the past couple GotG runs and manages to insert them into his own story without any flaws whatsoever. It's well-written, flashy, and, most importantly, fun. Great art by Cabal here to, along with other artists that were featured here. There's a lot to take in from just a few chapters featured here, and I'm excited to see where this story leads to next.

I liked Rocket's little suit.
Everything else was incredibly bland.

As I get older and increasingly Queer and hipster, I am finding I enjoy a lot less of the big two imprints who largely feel like they have such a reign on creators to fit their house style that there is an almost 'AI' feel to it all, which I don't think is an accurate reflection of the people working on these comics.

Something something capitalism. Something something neo-liberal cisheternormative crap.

I'm absolutely not saying no one at Marvel or DC is doing amazing, fascinating stuff. What I am saying is that I am done picking up comics from them without a direct recommendation of being a standout arc.

Libby is a truly magnificent service that allows free access with a library csrd to thousands of comics, which makes coming across ones that are absolutely not for me less painful.
