A solid conclusion to the trilogy. It tied together the previous stories and introduced some new things as well.

It was fun to have a book focus on Sigrud.

The conclusion had some interesting parallels to the conclusion of The Founders trilogy too.

5/5 stars - FanTASTIC ending to this series... just wow. I will leave most of my thoughts to the recap/spoiler zone below. Incredible characters, balance between fantasy and realty, mundane and magic, and the perfect amount of snark and wit. Can we also talk about the incredible quotes in this book??? RJB is on another level and I hope he is doing well in quarantine <3
-
spoilery thoughts:
- shara is assassinated and Sigrud finds out and goes to Ahanashtan and kills the gun-for-hire, khans, employed by a growing dimity who is killing divine children, nokov
- Sigrud then visits mugalesh and gets the name of a ship shara and her aunt were interested in
- Sigrud breaks into Shara's mansion to find more information about her death, is told to protect her daughter at all costs
- goes to Ivanya's estate to find Tatyana, Shara's daughter
- leaves to investigate the ship, and find out that Vinya trapped a young boy, now Nokov, in a chamber in an attempt to create her own god
- Ivanya, sigrud, and Tatyana travel to bulikov to keep Tatyana safe and have a battle with nokov, and his seneschal, Mishra (very epic)
- Malwina (able to manipulate the past) takes Sigrud around the city to open locks to a door where other divine children are asleep
- an endless loop of trauma makes the divine children remember their infinite lives with other families and their powers
- sigrud finds Malwina keeping a version of shara alive, tells him to visit olvos for help. olvos tells Sigrud that nokov is her son so she cannot help him, they talk about pain/killing/how the scar on his hand is a miracle and thread of a miracle keeping him alive in these situations
- nokov makes the walls of Bulikov black, and rises them into a tower
- the divine children give Sigrud a mind-sword/flame he uses against the seneschal and nokov. the seneschal is killed by Ivanya, Sigrud creates a hole of light with the flame and burst through with the automobile
- create a plan to divert the seneschal and Sigrud is majorly injured by it's black blade in his chest
- shara calls nokov after Mishra dies and sacrifices herself so Tatyana can have a trauma induced remembering session that shes a divinity
- tatyana and Malwina were once one child, split apart, and now rule the past and the future, goddess sempros, the god of time
- Sigrud climbs the stairs, remembering bits of his past, and convinces sempros to give up her power
- sempros disperses her power over all of humanity, giving everyone small abilities/miracles derived from divinities but saves a little bit of power to take a little bit of the miracle from Sigrud's hand and weaves it on to the wound on his chest, to save him
- Sigrud, now showing his age, Ivanya, and tatyana live far from the continent, where citizens opinions can help create the divine, in the dauvkind lands

What a beautiful and satisfying end to this wonderful trilogy. I loved all three books and how deeply we get to dive into each protagonist’s life and their perspective of the same world at different times, but I think this book was my favorite of the three. The action sequences are gripping and immersive. The relationships between Sigrud and the secondary characters are believable and touching, and the satisfying way things click into place show an amazing amount of attention to detail and worldbuilding that I absolutely loved. I’m sad that the series is over but the ending was done extremely well, in my opinion.

Read if you like immersive worldbuilding, fast-paced harrowing action sequences, and beautiful character and relationship growth.

Stay with me please. I'm about to launch into what might probably be a 'long winded, not much is being said, where exactly is the structure in this review' almost ever bookish person goes through when they have to talk about a book they love... can't be past tense because i am going to be forever in love with this series....with this book.

"Close your eyes, i'll be here in the Morning"

In City of Miracles, we finally circle back to beloved larger than life character Sigrud Harkvaldsson, except life has done a real number on him. Sigrud is even more human here, struggling with guilt, anger, regret a whole cocktail of them. If Sigrud lived in this age, he definitely would have been a candidate for serious theraphy just to unpack everything he was feeling. Seeing as feelings were never really his thing, Sigrud opts for what he does best: BLOWING SHIT UP. Really good too. But blowing shit up never really gives you answers. Worst part is, dead people can't talk....Well most of the time anyway.

Going to be honest, i did not expect The Divine Cities Series to pack a punch the way it did. The covers aren't particularly begging you to pick them up and to be honest, I read the title 'City of Stairs' and in my head i was like are these people going to be climbing stairs or what? Abeg. I don't have strength for this, and never looked at it again. Better late than never anyways.

City of Miracles, like its predecessors says, hey, here's a relatively run off the mill fantasy book:
gods acting crazy ✔️
characters who believe they're acting for the greater good? ✔️

But my goodness, I am going to make you feel feelinngs like never before. I don't know how this author did it, but hands to the book gods, all 3 books got me up in my feels. I thought the first couldn't top the first and the 3rd could never possibly top its predecessors but my goodness.
