Grafton's "M" in her alphabet series was decent. In this book Kinsey is hired by her newly found cousin to find a missing person for a estate reading. As with any of Kinsey's investigations this turns out to be more complicated than it seems. The Malek family has lost their patriarch and lost brother Guy is part of the will, much to their dismay. Kinsey sets out to find Guy and feels uneasy when she actually finds him and introduces him to the family. Something doesn't seem quite right. But unless something happens Kinsey just has this gut instinct. Of course something happens and Kinsey is on the hunt for the truth. About halfway through this book I figured out who the real culprit was but Grafton did a decent job of keeping me second-guessing on how and why.
Grafton's series is improving with each letter. They still aren't mind blowing amazing but they are improving. She's developing Kinsey in her personal life and that's a bit of a relief as Kinsey has been underdeveloped and a little too rough around the edges, to cliche. To bring some life to her and blur the cliche a little bit is nice, it was getting tiring.

Always love a little pulpy murder mystery book. It had been a while since I’d read the previous books and this was a nice one to dive back into. Don’t expect anything profound, just enjoy the mystery.

I have enjoyed the Alphabet series in print and audio form! I am listening to the series again---comfort reads. Robert Dietz returns! Kinsey works a missing persons case in which a long lost brother is due to inherit a large sum of money. His father banished him when he was young and no one has heard from him since. In her search, Kinsey comes across Christians who help the downtrodden --- how refreshing to see Christianity presented in a favorable light.
Each book opens to the same warm characters I have come to love, as much as the mysteries!
I listened to an audio version of this book. (less)

Unusual. Since Kinsey met her cousins she's been unsettled. In this one she admits to depression (the only reason for Dietz's reappearance, as far as I can see). She meets angelic Guy (the Malek family's scapegoat) and it's the key to unlocking Kinsey's family demons. The psychology in M was very intense for our heroine. I hope the next one plays this all out appropriately satisfying.

I selected this book to take on a camping trip for predictably absorbing reading, sort of like beach reading. I think I just picked the Sue Grafton book with the highest Goodreads rating, and it did not disappoint. OK, nothing happens until halfway through the book, and the solution to the murder mystery sort of comes out of left field, but I liked the detective which I think is probably the point of the series.
I was way off on who committed the crime in this one. Love when that happens.
