I have to say, while I have long been a huge fan of this series, that I am tired of being jerked around. After the last book and then having to sit through this book not knowing anything. I might be close to being finished with this series.

I have invested a lot into it so I will probably try the next one and hope it turns out better.

I'm cautiously optimistic at this point with where the series might be heading. I was much happier with the ending of this book than I was book 4. There are still some major disappointments, don't get me wrong, but I think this story could turn out better for Merit than I had originally thought.

So, I'm very curious as to what and who Tate is. Old magic, sorcery, some other sup we haven't met yet? I also have a somewhat bad feeling about Simon still. Not nearly as bad as when I first started this book, but I'm still not a big fan.

The most shocking to me was the end. I could not have predicted who was responsible for the changes in Chicago and I was flabbergasted when I realized what was going on. As usual, I'm having a hard time expressing how I feel without posting spoilers, so suffice it to say that my heart was in my throat and I am anxious to see where this is going.

I love this series! This entry in it was fabulous. Suspenseful and action-packed, it was a wild ride from start to finish. It was great!

I really enjoyed seeing more of Jonah, and learning more about the fairies was great fun, too. I figured out who was responsible for the changes in Chicago early, but this in no way diminished my pleasure in following along as Merit worked to solve the riddle for herself. :)

As the story ended on a bit of a cliffhanger, I'm super eager to read the next book in the series. I hope to be free to start it in a couple of days.
Is Ethan in any way under Mallory's power? Where will the search for Mallory take Ethan and Merit? When will Merit be formally inducted into the Red Guard? Will Jonah still partner her now that Ethan is back from the dead? And when will Ethan become Master of Cadogan House again?
These questions and more will haunt me until I can crack open the sequel. :)

This one was a little slow moving at first but I feel like the end made up for it. There were a few surprises that I really didn't see coming. I just hope that the next book doesn't fall back in the same will she or won't she groove. Make a damn decision Merit and stick with it!

4.5/5 Stars!

Wow! I didn't see that coming. I can foresee lots of problems in the future on so many fronts.

I am still very conflicted with this series. After book three, this was my favorite series, just edging past Mercy Thompson, but after book four I was too frustrated for this to remain number one. After finishing this book, I feel pulled in too many directions. I felt like the whole book got the reader invested in a particular direction, only to be yanked somewhere completely different right at the end. I feel much better than I did at the end of book four, but I would have been satisfied with a few different paths the story could have taken. To avoid spoiling any of the plot it is hard to say much else.

It just felt poorly paced. The book was slow until the last two chapters then it was very rushed. As if the entire book was build up for the last few chapters that contain both a resolution and a kind of cliff hanger.

There was a bit of "can't see what's in front of her face" as plot device in this one, too. It was understandable but only to an extent.

It was a quick and easy read, but I'm not in love with this series anymore. Call me disenchanted, but I feel like I'm watching Chloe Neill turn into KMM (Karen Marketing Maven). I already find myself thinking "I remember when" about Chitown Vamps.

The beginning of this book was agonizing! I felt for Merit and understood why she just wanted to lock herself away and never come out. Everywhere she turned something reminded her of him. I love that Mal was the one to bring Mer out of her funk. I also enjoyed the fact that Merit was spending more time with Jonah! She deserves someone else to give her butterflies and flutters besides Ethan. The incoming of Frank, the receiver, was FRUSTRATING!!! He was awful and wrong on so many levels! Another shocker ending! Although, it was a bitter-sweet one and I cannot wait for book 6!

"Merit!”

I jolted awake, bathed in sweat, gasping for breath, the sound of his voice in my ears.

Tears slipped from my eyes as I pushed drenched bangs from my forehead, and scrubbed my hands across my face, trying to slow the feverish race of my heart.

Just saying, all those who have been disappointed in the former book, read this one ! Just saying ;)

Merit keeps having these nightmares starring Ethan while the city is overtaken by a strange magic : water turning black, sky turning red, earth shattering. So far, we've met vampires, sorcerers, shifters, water nymphs, trolls, fairies, now let's welcome... a siren ! And the GP has sent a receiver, Frank, to watch the Cadogan house and investigate its functioning. You'll hate Frank, a total jerk ! And Jonah is more present and seems quite smitten with Merit.

There was this cute "girly" conversation between Catcher and Jeff that was so funny !

At first, I thought Merit wasn't really in love with Ethan beforehand, she seemed to miss him as a Master more than as a person or her lover. But then, you feel their connection in her dreams (the only place she allows her feelings to show ?), and the scene when Merit comes back to the House and sleeps in Ethan's room was touching.

I really like the way her character progresses, grows more mature and more confident.

I saw that readers were completely taken by surprise when the source of the magic was revealed but I wasn't, I just knew it ! It doesn't take anything away from the story, though, and I'm looking forward to finding how things turn out in the next volume, which is already awaiting on my Kindle.

Very good, enjoyable read !
