The only reason I kept reading this book is because I knew Ethan would be coming back. It was so boring and she just kept going round in circles doing the same thing over and over. Hopefully the next one is better.

This really felt more like reading an episode of True Blood. Not my favorite but still readable.

After what happened in the previous book of this series, I wasn't too sure if I would even continue with the series. After I heard what would happen in the end of this book, I relented. This book didn't captivate me for most of it but at least it wasn't completely insane for the whole book. It was a little more relaxing. I figured out what was going on early in the book and it really bothered me that Merit couldn't figure it out.

At one point when Merit was attacked, I was amazed that she almost didn't get away. That was pretty ridiculous to me. Don't vampires have super hearing, speed, and smell? So merit should have known he was coming. Another thing that really annoyed me was that she continually said "I wondered." All the time I feel like she said it in her head but I never really knew. Then someone would reply. I think it was just that it occurred so often.

Frank made me want to stab him. Every time he did some horrible thing I felt like they should just kill him. He was making a bad situation worse. Mallory and Catcher annoyed me for pretty much the whole book.

The only redeeming quality about the book was Ethan's return. Other than that it was semi boring. If he hadn't been coming back I may not have even continued with the series. Now I'm invested in it again. I really loved the first 3 books so hopefully I will start to love it again. So far in the sixth books, Merit seems to be getting her ass kicked on a continuous basis like in this book.

Yes!

There are elements to these books like I like, but they are off-set by what feels like a lack of maturity in characters, story, and writing. For example, the tension created by having a member of a GP at Cadogan House felt more than a little forced and silly.

Then, there was the primary plot.
SpoilerIt looks like magic, it smells like magic, but it can't be magic because that would implicate my bestie who seems to have gone off the rails. Again, this calls into question the whole concept of Merit being the Sentinel - surely there is a vampire with more maturity and emotional intelligence who'd be better able to fill this role. You know vampires? Some of which are centuries old and experienced.

The world building is interesting, though nothing special. It is just not on par with my favs.

WOW... this book had my head going every which way but the direction she was taking it and I loved every minute of it!!
I was extremely dumbfounded by the "villain" of the book but I am thrilled that Merritt's love life is finally taking a turn for the better!!!!
I am also so excited that Chloe Neill has inked a deal to release three more books after book #5!!!

I love how independent Merit is. She doesn't anyone control her. I love these books Merit is someone I would love to be. I can't stop reading them.

Not my favorite of the series. I am glad that Ethan is back, but I am bummed that now Mallory is gone. I was liking the premise of Merit and her friends against the world, but now she has to be "against" Mallory. Plus, it very much reminds me of Willow from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Just sayin....

Chloe Neill's series is one of the best out there in urban fiction right now. Each book is better and I'm eagerly awaiting the next installment.

The ending was great.
