Just barely entering enough to read book two. Mainly just setting up the back story and the world.
I don't know what to feel about this book. Parts of it I liked but I also had a hard time getting into and staying in the book. I'm not sure I'll continue the series. It is an interesting concept though I find my understanding of the dragons lacking. I think part of the problem is being thrown into this entirely new world with little to no understanding of how the systems work. Yes, I know there is a glossary in the back of the book, but I honestly found myself wondering if I had somehow accidentally picked up a book in the second half of a series. I went back and looked around online to see if there was another series that happened in the world of Loom but found that no, there wasn't.

This is an unqualified five star rating. I couldn't put the book down. Language, plot, characterization: it's all there. There was just the right touch of romance and a truly heartwarming relationship between Flor and her teacher. This is the best book I have read in a long time.
3-3.5 stars. Interesting start to a series. Oppression by dragons against the Fenthri (both are humanoids.) Organ harvesting. A master thief. Warring noble houses. Evil nobles. Ripped out hearts. Lots of action (though slightly oddly edited action, at times, such that I occasionally lost the thread of who was slashing/ripping what out of whom.) Reps of each species having to work together.
So, lots of potential, and I do like the background found on the author's website to give me a better feel for the different factions.

I liked the series a lot. It was different from most "dragon" books. I found the characters lovable. It was a different kind of fantasy. More of a steam punk fantasy. There was big character growth throughout the whole series. Enemies to lovers.
This book was entertaining enough that I'll finish the series.
But, dear God, did we *really* need to shove in a budding romance between Cvareh and Ari? I really hated the fact that the book was going there because it didn't feel necessary to the story. There *is* some gray space between enemies and lovers and it felt like Kova just skipped straight over that grey space.
It just felt too fast and it made Ari's "hatred" of dragons seem much less real. If she really hated the dragons so much, it would have taken her a lot longer to trust Cvareh. I know that this book actually skips over a lot of travel time, but I think that makes it even more important to truly show Ari's hatred before she starts falling for Cvareh.
IDK. It's a decent enough book, but I feel the budding romance was poorly handled and I think the book would have been a hell of a lot better if it had been left out all together.
