Another crime author I used to love but am struggling with at the minute. Tempe is on the outs with her boss and recovering from an aneurysm. After receiving a mysterious text of photos of a decomposing body she sets about trying to find out who it is and how he links to her.

It started off very slow to me although I did eventually get into it and didn't hate it. There's a lot going on and I found it hard to keep up. I did like that even Tempe is wondering if she's unreliable with the crime as she struggles to work out what is going on. Thumbs in the middle this time.

Someone found a body with no face and no hand at Cleverland County. Margot Heaver handled the autopsy of the body. Later Heaver revealed that the body was an Asian man. Temperance Brennan felt something was wrong with the result, so she decided to do the secret investigation all by herself. Brennan found out that the faceless man was involved with the missing child named Jahaan Cole. A connection between them will drive Brennan into the darker and more twisted world.

A Conspiracy of Bones is the 19th book of a Temperance Brennan series. It was published in 2020 by Simon & Schuster Australia and guess what they did a pretty good job promoting it. I bought this book because of Simon & Schuster Australia’s Instagram. The ads were very interesting. Anyway, when I got it, I put it on my shelf for a while before I started reading it.

Like I mentioned earlier that this is the 19th book of the series. I assumed that I didn’t need to start reading from the 1st book. How wrong I was. 30% of A Conspiracy of Bones story was based on the previous book which I had no clue what they were talking about. Moreover, this book was quite boring. It took me a month to finish this book because I didn’t wanna read it. A few chapters from the beginning I understand why it was slow because there were intros. I kept reading and reading, hoping that it will get exciting. Nope, it wasn’t. I still had a little bit of hope at the end but nah, still boring.

Another thing that I just have to say out loud is language. This book wrote in English and a few other languages. I am not an English speaker however I am no stranger to English. I must admit that the author used pretty difficult vocabulary. What I mean is there was plenty of abbreviation that I didn’t know what they meant. I guess those abbreviations are American or something. Moreover, there were Russian and Estonian. Yes, there were translations, but the translation appeared in another chapter. I’m not done here. In one chapter, there was a full-on French conversation that had no English translation whatsoever. I had to use Google Translate which was very irritating.

Even though I don’t like a lot of stuff in this book, I really liked the technology in it. The detective was using some sort of fancy equipment to solve the crime plus a lot of brainpower. There was malware on the computer which I have no idea what it means. Solved the puzzle from mp3, I’ve never known that thing exists. When the secret was revealed after decoded mp3, it was so brilliant. That part was the best part of the book.

I gonna let you decide whether or not you wanna read it. In my opinion, I still gonna read the first book of this series and decide from there. However, I gonna have to say no to A Conspiracy of Bones. It was unbearable.

Personally, I don’t think Kathy can write a bad book. I love following the adventures and just the life of Tempe. The knowledge and respect that Kathy writes with, is something that I’ll forever love.

I felt like I missed something when I read this. I scrolled back through the Temperance Brennan books and didn't seem to have missed anything. But we start off with Brennan's boss being murdered and Brennan having a brain aneurysm as well as being blackballed from her job by her boss' replacement. Did I miss where all this happened?

Either way, Brennan plunges ahead on a case of a faceless corpse that is found, without being in official capacity to do so. I worried about Brennan, she seemed a bit unhinged and paranoid in this book. But it turns out she had a right to be.

Something is very off about the faceless corpse, as well as the new head honcho's description of the case. Skinny Slidell, as well as others, don't have a lot of respect for the new coroner so they help Brennan out.

The key word in the title is Conspiracy. We went deep into conspiracy theories, the dark web, podcasts spewing garbage (much like what we have today) and Brennan went DEEP. The rabbit holes are far reaching and you'll enjoy them more discovering them on your own.

For a while I thought I'd missed a couple of book, because the style was so different. This was almost frantic, with seemingly very few real paragraphs or complete sentences. It made it much harder to keep my focus, being continually jarred and thrown from one thing to the next.

I am so happy that we were able to get back to the world of Tempe, oh how much I have missed you!

I was not disappointed at all with how temperance was able to jump back into action, even though she was dealing with blinding migraines, nightmares, and possibly hallucinations. All those and having to figure out if someone is out to get her or if it's all in her head. With Tempe you never know, she has a way of getting herself into troubling situations.

I love Reichs writing style so much, her writing really grabs at you and keeps you turning those pages nonstop until you finish it. She knows how to add the right amount of suspense, action, a little romance but overall, an amazing mystery thriller.

I love seeing all the old characters with the new ones . I agree with Tempe that some of the new characters just suck. Seeing Ryan in the book even if it was for small appearances was great. I just love Ryan and Tempe so much, and I hope that in the next book we will get to see more of him and I also hope that in the next book we get to see them in action in Quebec.

A Conspiracy of Bones was a mess.. I couldn’t get past all of the hyperbole. Every single sentence was a distraction to the storyline with excessive metaphors. It’s almost as if the writer took a dictionary and said I’m going to put the most exaggerated and overstated word in place of of a world that would make the book smooth and readable. I wanted to love this book. Calm down with the college professor, I’m better than you writing and just write like people speak. Write how normal detectives would engage in conversation. I don’t understand why the book was written this way. So daunting to read. The plot was also boring, and I am a crime junkie with degrees is Criminal Justice, Sociology and Psychology. This book should have been a big hit for me. Very unfortunate.

I always learn from Kathy’s books, so I was looking forward to that same experience with this book. It was only so-so for me. I did appreciate the storylines of the main characters, and the new detective. But after so much conspiracy crap in the media, there just wasn’t much left for this book.

I liked the book, but there have been better in the series. The storyline was confusing at times. Just not that interesting in my opinion. But I’ll keep with the series. Need more Ryan!
