Another excellent read of Cormac McCarthy. I’d love to say that I enjoyed it as much as The Border Trilogy but it was “spoiled” because I had seen the movie years ago so I knew the story. I still enjoyed it but I think the impact would have been greater without that knowledge. For example, I imagine that reading the scene of Moss’ murder, brilliantly told in retrospect, without knowing it was coming would have been terrific.

I particularly enjoyed reading the dialog between Llewelyn and Carla Jean. Such brilliant prose to make clear to the reader exactly how deep their love for each other is without a single word of affirmation or tenderness. Superb.

A wonderful book. I just wish I hadn’t seen the movie beforehand so I could fully appreciate it.

i listened to 90% of this book as an audiobook when i couldn’t sleep. i put it on and played “supermarket simulator” for hours at a time, and the narrator did a really great southern accent. i wouldn’t have read this book as a book, myself. the grammar bothered me a lot. the last 10%, i forgot about it for weeks and then decided to stop trying to look for the timestamp i left off and read the rest in a night. there were a few good scenes and interesting sentiments but also, a lot of sentiments that… were not interesting. or worth the pages they took up, really. i wasn’t super interested in most of this book. it was okay. if i had to sum it up, it retained my interest more than i expected, but also did sound like listening to my dad complain at times
