I really enjoyed Xue's journey as she is swept into the world of the Duke of Dreams in hopes to solve the mystery of who killed her uncle and the Duke's mentor. The world building was excellent with the different realms and the mixture of gods and magical beings. The only thing I did not like was the ending in which I hope there will be a sequel to tie up some loose ends. Thank you NetGalley for an ARC.

I want to start by saying that the author writes BEAUTIFULLY. She has such a talent for lyrical, whimsical writing. If this book gets adapted by Studio Ghibli, it would be an instant masterpiece.

I was truly invested in where the story was going especially

once the romance between the MCs began to blossom.

My issue with the book was the sharp turn in pacing especially in the last interlude. There was a rapid fire of characters from the different realms introduced and I could not keep up with who was who and what their purpose was. I’m still unsure who the true “villains” were.

We were also in the middle of a battle (?) and it was slowed by adding some of the lore and poems in between.

Overall, beautiful writing and gorgeous premise. The ending was a whirlwind.

A super interesting and mysterious read! I was so curious as to the story and what was going on. And I loved the magic of music and poetry that was included. The magic and mythology felt super authentic and unique, but it also felt really confusing. There was a lot of flipping around trying to remember who was who and what people were talking about. I’m still a little confused about the ending.
