I read it in about a day, but not because it was hard to put down, more because I had a lot of time and it was easy to read.
I’m not saying it wasn’t good, it was just, for me, frustrating. I love ya fiction and I love chick-lit so I thought I’d like this, I thought it had promise. I was disappointed. The writing seemed juvenile and repetitive, I found Lani to be sort of annoying, though perhaps that’s more to do with me disliking astrology, palmistry and general belief in fate and Destiny. You’re probably asking why I even thought I’d like this book, the synopsis was misleading.
I thought a couple of times about just giving up, but I didn’t and I'm glad I didn’t. It got better, there’s a point of conflict in it and I think the way it’s written and handled is actually pretty good. I liked the side characters, Blake in particular, but they all had depth which was quite nice.
Overall, probably 5/10, would hesitantly recommend, but with a warning.

Not a bad book-a little like Sarah Dessen, but a little less depth. I love Lani's love for the environment, but just felt that the story was a bit hackeyned.

This was not exactly what I expected. A nice book but I felt like it had no main event… I liked but it kinda felt like the book wasn't finished. I can't really explain it.

Lani knows that fate is the real deal. She and best friend Erin are spending their junior year of high school learning about all different tools of fate from astrology to numerology. All of these things that other people dismiss or call silly bring order to Lani's world and help explain who she is and why.

Erin couldn't be more different from Lani, but she feels the same way. Bound together after a dramatic childhood event, Lani can't imagine her life without Erin. And Erin feels the same way. What could possibly come between them?

Lani is sure the answer is nothing.

Until Erin starts dating Jason.

The more Lani and Jason start talking, the more they connect. But how can Lani be connecting with her best friend's boyfriend? How can something feel so fated when it is so the wrong thing in Something Like Fate (2010) by Susane Colasanti?

I'm a big fan of Colasanti's books. Although her novels always focus on soulmates, Colasanti always brings something new and original to the table. Unfortunately in the case of Something Like Fate that original spin is something that already came up in The Unwritten Rule by Elizabeth Scott.

Both books have their strengths--what Something Like Fate does well is examine changing friendships and high school dynamics. The story is a satisfying, if sometimes familiar, romance with the added touch of a narrator who is as passionate about astrology as she is about the environment.

The main problem with Something Like Fate is actually that Colasanti wrote her peripheral characters too well. Instead of rooting for Lani and Jason, I found myself wishing Connor played a more prominent role.

I loved Susane's book "When It Happens" and so I was looking forward to this one. But they were completly different. I'm really disappointed.

I felt that the characters were really shallow, the dialogue is just really forced, and for me, unbelievable. Like Blake, a struggling closeted gay but veeeery stereotypically done.

The whole book is just not realistic.

But it's not all bad, it was a fun, fast-paced read. Which is good, since I didn't loose to much of my time with it.

I honestly didn't like this book. I think the sentences should have been more descriptive and the characters were bland. This book just didn't appeal to me.
