Completely predictable to the point of being another annoying teen read. Girl likes boy, boy dates girls best friend, boy cheats on girls best friend with girl. Probably not the story you want to be romanticizing. I started reading it a long time ago and put it down because I couldn't handle how absurd the plot was, finished it because I have a hard time leaving books unfinished. Not worth reading again.

This is such a realistic book. I'm sure hundreds of girls go through a similar situation every year: your best friend dates a guy and after they break up, you start dating him (or at least liking him and agonizing over what to do). It wasn't my favorite book of all time, but pretty good.

If you want to read a book that has a story about two people falling in love, then I wouldn't recommend reading this one. Although two teenagers spend time with each other during the summer, there are very little times when the reader is involved with their affairs. This story is more about a girl who knows that she should be with a guy, but feels guilty since the guy used to date her best friend. This book wasn't terrible, but definitely NOT a romance.

I've read another book not so long ago where the lead female character hooked up with her best friend's boyfriend.

My reaction was:

Animated Gifs

I was not at all happy with how that one played out.

But with this book it was an entirely different story.

Animated Gifs

It was put in a way that I liked the lead character despite the fact that she fell in love with her best friend's boy.

Lani and Erin have been best friends for as long as they could remember.
But they were different from each other as night and day.
Lani was the environmentalist who usually likes to likes things simple.
Erin was the exact opposite.
She was the outgoing one who does something she wants without hesitation.
Erin started to date Jason whom she thinks was her soul mate.
Lani was okay with the fact that Erin was going out with Jason.
Jason was a good guy and it wasn’t hard to see that.
When Erin went to camp leaving Lani and Jason together that’s when things started to get complicated.
Lani know it was wrong but she was starting to develop feelings for Jason.
What made it worse was the fact that Jason seemed to be feeling the same way.
Lani has to choose between keeping her friendship with Erin or hurting her just for the sake of her getting the guy who she thinks was the guy fate chose for her.

One good thing about this book was that it was relatable.
The plot was not that unique but the characters made it so.
Lani, Erin, Jason and Blake were very relatable.
When we read this book we either see a piece of ourselves with Lani, Erin, Jason or Blake and that was what made this book good.

I do believe in fate but don’t entirely depend on it.
Fate would sometimes intervene but in the end out decisions would still be the last call.
We can make our own destiny.
Though I love how the author used the fate thing in this book.
I definitely look forward to more books from this author.

I give this book a 4! :D

Such a great book. I was iffy in the beginning of reading this book because of the love triangle. But was happy with the story.

So I ended up rereading this book after reading one of her books recently and absolutely hating it. I have three books on my shelves and I wanted to make sure I remembered her writing correctly since I just remember loving her books when they came out. Especially since at the time they were the only ya romance I willingly read and enjoyed.
I’m not saying this book is perfect for now or even when it came out. It’s filled with cliches and silly things that probably really wouldn’t happen ever in real life.
I will say character wise I wish we got more from our male characters. I wanted more Blake and more Jason. In general I love seeing a males perspective in a romance along with the females especially if they are the other half of our relationship in the book. The guys are generally more funny and confused then the girls. But it didn’t kill the book leaving out their perspective. And even though Lani as a character overall I didn’t like I think it’s because she’s just the type of person I personally never would hang around. I don’t want to hear about our environment in every conversation or have someone bug me for not separating my recyclables correctly. But I mean considering they backed it up with her parents basically working in that field it makes sense why she would grow up heavily influenced by the same things. Also wish we got more Connor in anyway possible. Honestly loved his character even with the small amount we saw him.
Overall the story was pretty good. It was easy to read and at times even kept me on my toes. At one point I couldn’t decide wether I believed Jason legit told Erin that he wanted to break up and was not just trying to two time her with Lani being oblivious. Especially since Erin really didn’t send any recent letters or talked about it in a previous letter to Lani. So I was like having a whole moment with myself but in the end it worked out.
This book was definitely nostalgic and I loved every minute of rereading it. Definitely I’ll reread my other two books by her.
