I was invested in the family's story & interested in the political history when they were living in France and Lybia. When they moved to Syria, the vocabulary used and Riad's father's actions became too offensive/upsetting to ignore. I lost interest because of this.

Interesting looking through at the Middle East through the lens of a child. Graphic Novels are a solid medium for biographies. 

There are characters that are racist and antisemitic and that’s hard to deal with.
