Always worth a re-read. For that eighty's style and one offs stories that carry a lot of weight. Totally forgot about Hob's storyline and Facade.
I could have sworn that when this was coming out in single issues, I read as far as '24 Hours' and then quit. Because that was just too gruesome for me. My college roommate was buying them. But every story in this volume was familiar. (Although I skipped 24 Hours. I'm sure I still can't stomach it.) It's hard to say anything about the series. I mean, it's Sandman. It's like saying something about [b:Watchmen|472331|Watchmen|Alan Moore|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1175041710s/472331.jpg|4358649]. I guess I am reading it as much because I know I should as due to actually enjoying it. And I wouldn't be reading it at all if my boyfriend weren't ordering the volumes (his first time through and he's much more enthusiastic than I). Just like it's taking me years to get through Preacher because it's just so frequently ... icky. The worst of human nature and some nightmarish creepy crawlies to boot. But there's no question they're brilliant.

An interesting beginning to this massive work. When I picked this out, sight unseen from the library, I had no idea what I was getting into...each volume a little over 600 pages it seems. Still, I did want to read ‘The Sandman’ and not knowing where to start, I decided, I suppose, to ‘start’ with all of it. I have enjoyed the evolving look of Morpheus through this first volume. Gaiman has an incredible mind and a gift for conjuring stories that include the oddest of characters and he has surrounded himself with some of the best in the business to create ‘The Absolute Sandman.’ I look forward to reading the rest.
