3.5*

Reading books about adventures and very brave people while laying comfortable in my bed is something I enjoy doing from time to time. Usually they are very fascinating and borderline scary at times being a real story. But this one just didn't quite work for me. Not sure why though but didn't fully connect with it

Interesting book. I had seen the "I Shouldn't Be Alive" show about this story, but didn't realize it until I was about halfway through the book. The guide seemed so genuine and true.

Hated all the people in this book, but Yossi’s survival story itself is remarkable. I expected a lot more from this book, though, not just a survival story.

The fact that this is a true story, fascinating. But these guys are incredibly naive and make so many bad decisions that it's amazing anyone survived to write about it. I could forgive that though if the writing style was at least somewhat captivating. I actually found myself skimming pages at a time in what should have been the most exciting part because it was repetitive and monotonous. I also really hated the inclusion of these long, drawn-out fantasies Yossi had as he was wandering around the jungle. I can see how they give insight into Yossi's life and dreams outside of being a backpacker, but frankly I didn't really like him very much by that point and had no interest in getting to know him better.

A disappointed 2 stars for this one.

I first heard of Yossi Ghinsberg’s story on Episode 48: Lost and (Almost Never) Found, Madidi National Park, on the podcast National Park After Dark.

I signed up for my local library and was surprised to see they had this novel on hand.

I’ve been eager to read this and it did not disappoint. It is such an interesting story of adventure, the risk to see untouched lands and people of the Amazon, and what the human body can endure when it has to survive.

I also love that Yossi’s harrowing time alone in the Amazon fostered such a respect for the rainforest and its people that he dedicated his life to preserving it.

i cant get over how bad i thought this book was. unless you’re really interested in this man’s foot rash i would pass on it. his entire story was an example of play stupid games win stupid prizes.

Could not put it down!! Had me on the edge of my seat the whole book! Had to know what happened and became obsessed with finding out the truth behind everything that happened in this true story! I watched 3 documentaries on this book after reading it, incredible true story of survival!
