I knew Henry was a f--- boi but omg he was so much worse than that. I greatly appreciate Weir's translation of historical events into a thorough historic fiction. I almost DNF'd after the first quarter because it was a bit dry at the beginning. But I started getting into the politics and stuck with it to the emotional conclusion. Katherine deserved so much better.

I love my history and I have always wanted to read this series. The Tudor period and particularly Katherine of Aragon always intrigued me. She is one of my favourite queens to read about and it was such a fantastic experience for me to read this well researched piece of historical fiction.

This story starts from when Katherine is heading to England to marry Arthur - Henry Vlll’s older brother. You read how a very young Katherine feels having left her homeland of Spain behind to come to a strange country. Weir gives Katherine so much personality and strength in character that you cannot help but feel sorry for her but also hold such high admiration for this brave woman. The way she is treated throughout her life and her heart break over Henry when she was always a faithful wife is written so passionately, my heart literally broke too. The pain of child loss was particularly devastating to read about. It is incredibly moving as you know that this is the closest we will ever get to knowing how the real life Katherine felt.

What I loved was how the story showed you how intelligent and full of wisdom Katherine was and how she helped defend England from invasion while Henry was abroad. She was a force to be reckoned with.

Alison Weir sticks to all the true facts that historical records have shown and gives Katherine’s side of the story that is a must read for all history readers. It gives great insight into the Tudor Court and I loved reading every single page. I can’t wait to get to the next book about Anne Boleyn.

A phenomenal fictionalisation of Katherine of Aragon’s time in the English court. Whilst I think the book could have been condensed slightly, I was gripped from start to finish and am eagerly purchasing the full series right away! I would strongly recommend this book to anyone interested in the Tudor Court or historical fiction.
