my least favorite of the series so far, but still gets 4 stars so that should tell you how much i'm loving these.
the probs with this one were that 1) they are definitely getting a bit convoluted and less plausible. and 2)
Spoiler there was a dna issue that seems super obvious but is never mentioned as an issue. if they used dna to identify the original corpse, they would have known that it wasn't the body they thought, but that they were related. right???

anyway, so upset about the losses in this one, but definitely getting book 5.

Another fabulous story from the Slow Horses.
Gripping, interesting, clever and witty. Excellent read.

True to form --fingernail-biting, white-knuckling, great storytelling, and funny! Mick Herron helps me keep my sanity.

Superb.
The story left me so on edge that I felt compelled to do the most wrong thing imaginable - skip forwards to find if what I thought was happening was actually happening.
My favourite of the series so far

This series just keeps getting better.

I always enjoy the Slow Horses, and Gerard Doyle has been the perfect narrator. This one puts River in the crosshairs as he tries to figure out who attempted to assassinate his grandfather (the Old Bastard/OB) and why. Brings up the cold war attempts by Russia to infiltrate the West by creating towns in country of Russian residents who were trained to be western. And then what happens when the cold war ends, but those villages are still playing by the old rules.

Loved it! 4.5. Wish I realized it was series and started at book one because I liked it so much but as a stand alone it’s still great. I wished it had a little bit more character development but maybe that would’ve been true in the series as a whole.

The fourth book in the Slough House/ Slow horses where spies go that have messed up in some way. River Cartwright is worried about his grandad, O.B. who is a former MI5 spy slowly deteriorating into dementia. The others are back, including Louisa, Ho, Shirley, Marcus, and new boy J.K. Coe, who is suffering from PTSD. Catherine Standish has resigned although her resignation has not been accepted by their boss, the odeous Jackson Lamb, although she is replaced by the efficient Moira. It starts with a bomb going off in a crowded shopping centre, killing civilians, and shooting at O.B.'s house.  It's fast-paced, with many twists and turns. It's funny, smart, witty, cynical, but heroic, a send up of the typical spy tale. Superb stuff I've ordered the next book from the library already.
