3.5 - Four books in and I'm ready to admit that the Slough House series is fun, even if not ever joke sits well with me.
funny tense fast-paced

Having seen the adaptation first I got to experience some real surprise when certain things happen differently or are initiated by someone else.

#4 in the Slough House series harkens a bit back to previous books -- Reconstruction where "Bad Sam" Chapman lost track of a quarter billion dollars, The List where we first met an undamaged J.K. Coe, and to Dead Lions where we got a hint of darkness behind David Cartwright's seemingly genial disposition.

I've said this in prior reviews, but I'm struck at how deeply cynical this series is. The MI5 that Diana Taverner says she's saving isn't protecting the British public. The disasters that drive each book's plot are all, in some way, of MI5's making.

Straight off to read thnext one in the series. Yes they are that good!

The pace and premise are perfect, the cast of characters remains superb, and the action set pieces are somehow classic and surprising. My only complaint was that the Regents Park plotline was a bit underdeveloped, although I really enjoyed the two new characters on that side of the story.
