Wtf just happened. This series was SO good, and 80-90% of this book was amazing... and then... it all fell apart.

The ending, to me was reasonable and realistic. The hero doesn't always win. And a true queen sacrifices all for her people.

THIS WAS A REASONABLY SATISFYING ENDING

RPL Reading Challenge: Read a fantasy novel

It has taken me a couple days to digest my feelings toward this book. I was completely engrossed in the first 90% and like many other readers have already mentioned, the last chapter fell flat on its face. This series is one that kept me captivated and invested in the characters and I only wish they would have gotten the ending they all deserved. I definitely recommend though for anyone who enjoys dystopian or fantasy fiction.

**SPOILERS BELOW**
I absolutely loved the first two books. I liked the exploration of human nature, innate goodness be innate evil, and the question “is a utopia even possible?” I feel like the series could have ended so many satisfying ways but I feel like the ending ultimately felt like an elementary schooler writing their first fiction work and ending it with “and then she woke up and it was all a dream!” The ending just seemed sloppily thrown together where the rest of the series was so purposeful and well thought out. I wish there had at LEAST been some follow up beyond two days of her new life before the story ended forever.

4.5⭐️

“This, I think, is the crux of evil in this world, Majesty: those who feel entitled to anything they want, anything they can grab.”

The conclusion to the Tearling trilogy. Let me start with the things that I like about the series.

1.Politics- A young girl raised hidden in the woods, ascends to the throne. She inherits the problems of the Kingdom (Poverty, Lack of food, Taxes, Human Trafficking etc.) and the bad choices made by the former Queen her mother who was known to be an airhead. Internal problems aside, Mortmesne their powerful neighbour threatens to attack the Tearling once again

2. Social Systems- Kelsea's vision of the past and present shows the different social systems in each time. As a reader, I found it interesting that each system eventually failed and that the utopia that her ancestors worked so hard to achieve is always at the end of their reach as long as we fail to take into consideration humanity's ability to err.

3. Coming of Age- At the very core, the series is Kelsea's coming of age story. As she defines what kind of queen and person she is.

4. Magic& History-The first book does not have much magic and history in it. All we have is the division of timelines between pre-crossing and post-crossing. The story is set in a medieval society but the people know about genetics and other advanced sciences. It's in the second book that we get to learn more and confirm our theories on how the Tearling came to be and the final book cement and offers insight on what happened after the crossing. If only we could borrow the Tear Saphire are start anew somewhere

What I don't like:

1. Sometimes the story is dragging especially in the first book.
2. Kelsea's fugues into people from the past (Katie and Lily) steals a lot of screen time.
3. The Ending- I was super excited to have my hands on Fate of the Tearling. From the start of it, all the juicy details started pouring out and I was glued. Near the end, it was so thrilling that the ending was just "meh"

This was a mostly satisfying ending to this series. Everything was wrapped up, which was nice. I didn't love the way the author chose to end it, but I understood it. I also didn't love a few of the things Katie did and thought the climactic scene w Katie was too much. The same thing could have happened without being so out there. I mean, it's all out there but that part seemed too much. There is no reason kelsea couldn't have appeared out of nowhere instead of coming out of Katie's mouth. I didn't love how Katie had sex w row and then Jonathan back to back. I didn't like her w row at all to be honest. That seemed unnecessary.
But other than those two things, I was happy w this third book.
Update: my 13 year old daughter had the exact same reaction as me. Although she might have disliked the ending even more than me.

I really enjoyed the other books.  However, this book, which ends the series, truly leaves a lot to be desired.  The FMC ends up alone, lonely, and emotionally scarred.  It’s an infuriating end for her.

3.5? it was good but i'm so confused?
