I enjoyed this for two main reasons. It is Sherlock Holmes, and I read it to my son. It was so much fun to read these stories aloud to my son with different character voices. Hearing him laugh at my terrible British accent was a joy.
When it comes to the book itself it was ok. Most of these short stories were predictable and seemed a bit drawn out. I did really enjoy The Adventure of the Empty House. This was of course the first story in this collection and it shed light on the events that happened in the previous book.
Overall I was not overly impressed with this one and it is my least favorite Holmes collection so far.

This is possibly the strongest Holmes collection of short stories - maybe the break gave him that needed creative spark but there's a complexity, depth and a consistent quality that is not always present in the other collections (though to be fair, there's not much in it - the quality is pretty consistent throughout).
Due to the irregular nature of the library, this is the last collection in the series on my current re-read. It's an excellent strong finale and I have nothing but high praise for Stephen Fry. His narration has been spectacular, rich and varied with wonderful voice work and accents and a strong warmth throughout.
It's been great re-visiting the series. Maybe in a decade I'll swing by Baker Street again, check in on the old gang.
