Love this series!!

Amazing series. Loving it so far!

These books are so long and so much happens in them. I feel a little bit bad for Jamie, that he has to raise this militia to support the governor and therefore the King, when we all know that history shows what happens to English rule in America. And then OMG what happened to Roger. I was holding my breath until we found out what actually happened. And was so sad for all of them in the aftermath. And then Jamie's snake bite. I thought it was a brilliant idea to use the snake fangs to create a primitive version of a hypodermic needle to inject Claire's penicillin where it needed to go.

I am always in such awe of how much Jamie and Claire love each other and are so in tune with one another. And Roger and Brianna seem to be on their way to that as well. I think Roger is there. I think Brianna's run in with Stephen Bonnet broke a little something inside of her. Why, oh why, hasn't he died yet? He's like Jamie in how hard he is to kill!!

But the best part of this book for me was
SpoilerIan is back!! We don't know exactly why, yet, but I'm so happy he's back
.

It had been a few years since I'd read the 4th installment of the Outlander series, so I wasn't sure if I would still be interested in slogging through 950+ pages of a book about the Fraser clan. But it didn't disappoint. Jamie and Claire are as passionate and delightful as ever, and Bree and Roger's story is shaping up to be equally exciting.

Not my favorite in the Outlander series (it's so slow), but it does get better with each read.
adventurous challenging dark emotional medium-paced
Plot or Character Driven: A mix
Strong character development: Yes
Loveable characters: Yes
Diverse cast of characters: Complicated
Flaws of characters a main focus: No

This was slower moving than the earlier Outlander books. For me, that worked. The slice of life scenes gave me a good sense of what life must have been like in colonial America. There was still plenty of action. One scene in particular had my heart in my throat. Some of the events towards the end were also very satisfying.

The only thing that kept me from giving it a full five stars was the frequent talk about breast feeding and baby poop. I thought that the reviews I'd read complaining about that had to have been exaggerating. Unfortunately, they weren't.

Definitely the weirdest of the series with murder, battle, and bloodshed, but I appreciated the medical examinations that Claire intervened on and Increased opportunity for other character POV.

Long book! Sometimes I wished she had left out so much detail, but then that is part of the beauty of her books. Some BIG surprises. Love the direction the story is going and can't wait to start the next book!

As with Drums of Autumn, I found it slower than the first 3 books however the build up to the end and the end was superb. I can't wait to read the next one!
