What a fun, dark and murderous Christmassy read!
I read this book is one sitting, which is the perfect way to experience it!
We follow Ashley Smith, an American student who is studying in London and is invited to spend Christmas with a friend in the Cotswolds. Things get very twisty and dark from here.
Part one of the book is mainly told through Ashley's diary entries from 1989, she comes through as a funny, awkward teen. Part two is where my jaw dropped. I did not see this twist coming.
I really enjoyed Swanson's writing style, the contrast between the exposition and the diary entries kept this short novel interesting and fast paced. There were profound points, funny and soft character moments and a lot of dark and twisty turns.
It's a perfect little Christmas murder mystery novella. It actually felt Christmassy, while also successfully unravelling a perfectly paced mystery.
I loved it. My first experience with Peter Swanson, I would definitely pick him up again.
