This was a nice, quick read! The beginning took me a bit to get into because those journal entries were a slaug for me. It was such a stream of consciousness, which I can appreciate because it helped build Ashley's character, but damn. That writing was tough for me to get through. I was more invested when things started really picking up at the first sight of the man in the woods. Ngl, with Emma and Adam always sneaking off together and then Ashley found the dress in his closet and Emma in his bed, I thought this was going down Alabama road with the siblings. Thank goodness that wasn't it though! I appreciate that we got Emma's side of it and how things played out, even though it felt like there was a lot that Emma dismissed with "I don't remember that". I'm really curious why she would've been in Adam's bed! And also what was the deal with pointing out the picture on Adam's desk? They had planned everything out so perfectly, it makes me wish that something would've gone wrong in their plan that they didn't account for and how they might've struggled to work around that.
Overall, I enjoyed the story! There were some aspects I wasn't the biggest fan of, but I did appreciate the format in the way it was told was more unique, the characters were interesting (even if in a morbid way), and atmosphere was on point for the season!

I loved this book! It’s a good one if you’re having a rough time getting into the Christmas spirit! My only gripe is there were too many word-ey diary entries. iykyk!

3.5 stars! A quick Christmas novella with a decent twist, despite its short length. Very atmospheric as well! Definitely recommend if you’d like a spooky adjacent Christmas story.

This had a lot of promise, and the premise sucked me in right away, but I personally didn't enjoy it much outside of the wintery setting and general mystery. The1st reason for this is the way it was written. For the majority of the book, the story is told in a combination of diary entries and dialog, which would have been fine if there were a clear distinction, but a lot of the time, the conversation would start in the diary entry and then randomly halfway through it would change to almost a script format which was odd. Additionally, the actual plot twist didn't make sense! I won't spoil anything but the "why" behind everything felt kind of lazy and nonsensical. The ending was interesting, but then the story quickly ended, so it left much to be desired. But it served its purpose for a quick holiday read.
