THIS BOOK. Wow. I have so much to say and there’s no way I can say it all. The world Tracy has created is incredible. It’s crazy how action packed this can be without getting tedious. Every little thing means something and I love that. I adored the further exploration into the world of the rootcrafters and their ancestors. The imagery and symbolism is of course a little on the nose sometimes (it’s YA have some grace) but it’s meaningful nonetheless. Valec is awesome he better stay that way. I still CANNOT decide who Bree should be with. Like yes we saw her and Sel mostly in this one and they are fire and desire but her and Nick in the first one were so soft and kind and he cares about her so much it hurts (me). At this point in time I can’t see how she can choose one without permanently losing the other and that’s just not allowed. I really hope this isn’t going to be one of those where the strong woman character ends up giving away her powers for the greater good. If Bree is giving up her powers so should everyone else hello. Like please make them all live forever, strong and happy. I can’t wait to see what’s next. ALICE come back to us we love you

Reread 4/9/2025: all i want is throuple. My lord just give me throuple plz.
More thoughts laterrrr
i loveeeed the first 40% of this, then found the middle 30-40% lagged a lot. but i do also think deonn was setting up a lot of stuff that will unfold in the last two books, and i was also barreling through this book very fast and not giving myself enough time to appreciate what was happening. it's a lot of emotional development and very real struggles of a young person not knowing how to handle the responsibilities and power she's been handed. and the ending was very good and left me needing the next book (not until 2025 AAAH) so anyway i continue to love this series, I'm excited to reread this closer to when the third book is coming out because I think i will appreciate it more then. also sel was really annoying but i still love him and i want him to reach his full broody bisexual potential

Really good book, but dragged a little in the middle. Overall an entertaining read
I wish I could give it 6⭐️ but the ending was chaotic and it pmo, love this series so much, it’s very black girl meets beauty and the beast meets strategy, politics, and magic, can’t wait to read the third book!
