I really enjoyed this book. I don’t often find myself reading ghost stories - but this YA novel with a southern backdrop (and a gorgeous cover!) kind of stole my heart. Added plus? The mentioning of great bluegrass scattered throughout. Shady Grove was likeable from the start. And let’s not forget Cedar! The relationships in the story felt less like teenage heartthrob and more sincere - which I appreciated!

I hated this book like I don’t know what else to say. It was so predictable and boring and I don’t want that in my thrillers. I hated the main character she just hurt people and whined and I just couldn’t feel for her. The resolution was so boring and obvious and I guessed it almost immediately. The love triangle and romance was so weird and it honestly shouldn’t have been added. The vibes weren’t even scary just strange. This book just made me mad and I am so sad about it because I really wanted to like this I really did. There was not a moment where I was scared also.

I really enjoyed "Ghost Wood Song!" It was a beautiful homage to music, grief, and life in the Southern United States.
Shady Grove and her friends were fun characters to follow. They sometimes felt slightly one-dimensional, but I wasn't going into this looking for the best character work, so I'm not very disappointed.
The mystery aspect was quite intriguing, and I liked the way the threads of plot wove together as the novel progressed.
However, my favorite part was the descriptions of the music. As a musician myself, I always appreciate the magical nature of music being discussed in books!

This spooky southern gothic story about a girl whose father's fiddle can call up ghosts was so compelling! When a murder happens and her brother is accused, Shady knows she has to find her dad's fiddle to learn the truth from the ghosts--no matter what dark malevolent presence might stand in her way.
