wow. so many things to love about this book for me: the vignettes, the shit-talking of hoity toity liberal arts degree holders, the complex characters… i basically only read this during my lunch breaks at work but i always felt like i could dive right back into it. soooo good thank you grace for gifting it to me!! <3
Fine! Don't want to rank higher (and in fact might take it down a little) because I couldn't get through it the first time and kinda pushed myself on principle the second. Definitely some sections that flowed for me, but just sections. Can't tell if my dislike of the characters is why I had a hard time or something else.
Strange and beautifully written novel, told by several unreliable narrators with limited insight.

I am unsure how to feel about this book, it was easy to read and kept my interest but I had trouble figuring out the point of the plot.

The story kind of drags on through at least the first half of the book, mostly because I found the characters kind of reprehensible and not relatable. It's kind of difficult to read about a group of white folks whose arrogance make it difficult for them to "live off the land" but I'm glad I stuck with it. There's a little tale about friendship at the end that broke my heart and made the whole journey worth it.
