As someone who loves escape rooms, I was really thrilled with this very creative idea. However, the execution leaves something to be desired. I didn't find the storyline very intriguing, and the author treats the race issue very heavy handedly (although perhaps that's the norm for books geared towards a younger audience).

DID NOT FINISH

It was okay but once my audiobook listening got interrupted I didn't want to go back to it. If I had gotten further in it would probably be different. I just don't like setup, no matter how important.

It's not often "Escape the Room" games take center stage plus it was interesting to some Japanese-American WW2 history and nazi plunder thrown in too. Very enjoyable read.

I loved the beginning and the middle, but the end... not so much...

“Go for broke,” said Ted’s great uncle, the day before he died and left his apartment and “all his treasures” to Ted, whom he barely knew. I love that Ted is an escape room whiz! This story had mystery, history (of Japanese Americans and WWII), literature, and puzzles galore. It got a little crazy for me at the end, but it will appeal to many 7th graders.
