I've always found that Christie's massive diversions from her usual murder mysteries haven't worked for me. There's something about her "cozy" style that doesn't mix too well with spy thrillers. Destination Unknown was a quick read but also strangely boring and difficult to pick up again.
None of the characters stood out, either, but I always focus on the plot and mystery the most in Christie's books, so that's not really an issue for me. I'm happy to report that this time I also had no problems getting swept into the story right away (which can be a problem with some of her slower books; rare, but possible). The story overall just left me cold.
The ending had a bit of a double plot twist going on, but I wasn't that impressed. Sad to say, but I found the whole novel predictable. Maybe Christie gave too many or too obvious clues? Or is it just that her clues don't work in this kind of environment?

Cold War era spy thrillers aren’t typically my jam, and I much prefer Christie’s murder mysteries, but I found this book entertaining enough. There were a few twists that threw me off, and I sort of suspected the book was going to end the way it did, but it didn’t lessen my enjoyment of the book.

A highly enjoyable Cold War Spy Thriller by the Queen of Mystery. An interesting combination that worked for me this time around. A woman contemplating suicide due to the death of her baby and her marriage is given the chance to help the British government in a high risk scheme that will likely end in her death. She recklessly agrees and we follow her journey from there. Like usual, Christie created robust characters and a compelling story. It was good fun.

The rating is purely my reaction, this is a perfectly good spy type thriller with some neat little twists, a change of pace for Agatha. I just didn't like it all that much, it sort of gave me the creeps. I found myself longing for a nice murder or two in a picturesque English setting.
Esta vez no tenemos asesinato (¿o sí?) sino una historia de espías, científicos fugados y mucho Telón de Acero.

While I love reading Agatha Christie's books, I can't stand her spy thrillers.
I'm not a fan of thrillers normally, but this one was so boring. It even had a great premise, but after the main character started her mission, things just slowed down. There wasn't much action.

All along throughout the book I wasn't sure what to expect next. There was no way to know who was behind everything, who was in on it, etc. The ending was the most shocking, as I never thought that the reason he was wanted was for murder, or that peters was the cousin of the wife he murdered. The only thing I was aware of throughout it was the attraction between peters and Hilary, and the ending made me happy, as I was not expecting them to actually confess to it at all, especially not in the way that it had happen. This book took a girl from wanting to end her own life, through hell and back, to having her own happy ending. Agatha Christie is an amazing writer and I never know what to expect from her.

This book was absolutely insane. THE END??? Unfortunately, it had a pretty slow build up, and majority of the book was just traveling, which was a bit boring. And then all of a sudden there’s a leper colony, and a utopia that’s actually (shocker) just a ploy for money??? And it’s a scientist money making scheme??? And they’re all going to be lobotomized??? And the scientist that is married to the woman who’s not actually the woman actually killed his first wife and isn’t a genius scientist??? And the romantic interest is the cousin and also the woman who the woman is impersonating warned her about??? And the big bad villain speech??? This was truly a wild ride. Color me surprised
