[first book of 2024]

why did it start getting interesting towards the end..

overall, really good premise, just didn't live up to my expectations for a really scary thriller, but it did really have some great twists. very character based and different povs, but things can get really confusing throughout the course of the book if you forget who's who. also my first psychological thriller, idk how i feel about it yet
ending was a little too rushed and casual for my liking, especially with so much happening before?? but it was a good read & would recommend to ppl who find these kinds of plots interesting

Definitely a very engaging book with likable characters. The plot did feel hard to follow- there were lots of different things happening that didn’t seem connected for the first half of the book. I’m glad I stuck with it though, it was an enjoyable read! 3.5 stars.

Another Kelley Armstrong book, but rather than the Rockton series that I'm currently invested in, this is a one-off, YA thriller. Goody-two-shoes Blythe and the bad boy Tucker were the best of friends, practically inseparable ever since they were children. Until the incident last year. Now, everything was off. Blythe has been forced to lean more on Gabrielle, while Tucker turns to his sister Tanya. When Gabrielle has a mental breakdown and Blythe starts to question her memory, the dominoes start falling. Not all is as it seems. As if in a dream, there are details just out of reach. Without support, she finds herself returning to her old friends as they try to figure out what triggered Gabrielle and how they can help her.

The title is misleading. In fact, the only time the title had any reflection on the contents of the book was at the very beginning. As with most YA novels, the adults are on the fringes of the story while the teenagers run amok. Armstrong's characterizations are always spot on. This book took it a step further as a psychological thriller. Tucker and Blyth are an unlikely pair, but massively likable in their flawed ways.

Some characters existed only when the plot needed it and were just plot devices and not fully fleshed out, which I found frustrating as I tried to remember who people were and their connections.

It is a unique and interesting  thriller(academic). My only complaint is that it was hard to keep track of everything, every pov. This is probably my fault for reading an audible book instead of ebook.

It was simply boring. I wasn’t engaged at all and the characters fell flat for me. It was at a point where I was purposefully looking up spoilers to keep myself engaged but the only think that the spoilers revealed was that this was a bad written book with almost no remaining qualities.
I felt that the way the characters were written sounded like they were middle schoolers not 16 years old.

Now it wasn’t all bad. The actual story could’ve been good if they just got to the point faster.
