Things come to a head when Gabrielle starts muttering that someone is always watching and her parents are not her parents in a manic manner which is massively out of character for her. When she is found covered in blood in the principal's office with the principal dead on the ground, she cannot recall anything about what has happened.
Blythe, Tucker and Tanya know something is seriously wrong. Blythe’s sister has been having vivid nightmares and then someone calling themselves Veritas, keeps sending Blythe emails about a boy who slit another kid's throat and hinting that it is someone she knows and trusts. When Devon admits that he is remembering things that supposedly didn’t happen, it has the whole group wondering what is happening and whether they can even trust their own memories or each other.
I really enjoyed this one. It really pulled me in and I was hooked right away. It was very clever the way the storyline merged the way it did and I am so grateful that the ending was written the way it was. I felt it was tied up well enough to be a standalone but also left an avenue for a sequel.
I really enjoyed the notion of memories and the idea that they can be manipulated or changed. It was very well done without getting too technical. I could have done with a little bit more character development but I can see why it was necessary to not give too much information away.
Definitely an addictive read! 4.5 stars!!

I received an arc of this book and I really wish I could have gotten farther through it, but frankly I can’t. I can’t make myself care for the characters and there isn’t much flow. The story up to 28% felt stiff and I reread several of the early chapters, but still wasn't sure what was going on or why I should care. This isn’t for me, but I think others will like it.

Really loved this one! One of my favorite series ever is by Kelley Armstrong (the Darkest Powers series) and this reminded me a lot of that and I’m not mad about it. Very similar characters and vibe. Good girl protagonist, check. Misunderstood love interest who everyone thinks is a monster, check. Bitchy friend-not-friend character, check. The plot was super interesting too. If you’re not a fan of pseudo science that never gets explained, this book is NOT for you. But I found it super unique and it was fun being introduced to the core moral dilemma in the book.

Trigger warnings: murder, death, blood, death of a child (in the past), mentions of sexual assault, gun violence, mentions of fire, mentions of attempted suicide.
I first started reading Kelley Armstrong's books like 20 years ago with the Women of the Otherworld series, and I've thoroughly enjoyed her books ever since. I've loved her shift from paranormal into thrillers, and I was really excited about reading this one because the premise sounded extremely cool.
And, like, it was definitely a thriller. It was compelling and full of twists. But at the same time, there was just SOMETHING about it that didn't quite work for me, and I cannot for the life of me pinpoint what it was. Maybe it's that the blurb gave too much away?? IDK IDK.
I liked the protagonist, but there were a lot of aspects of the story that I found predictable, and while I didn't guess who the villain was, I did guess what was going on for the most part.
So yeah. I had fun, but I don't know that I'll be rereading it in a hurry.
