Love Kelly Armstrong. She always seems to know what’s in my brain.

Stuff starts happening pretty quickly and it pulls you in

I’m enjoying the tangled histories and internal mysteries of the friend group

I think it’s obvious the company their parents’ work for are experimenting on them but we shall see.

Narrator does a decent job.

I really like Tucker and am interested to see what happened with him and Blythe that made their families freak out.

There are a few different POV characters and are easy enough to differentiate. Some of the stuff you learn in these different POVS ramps up the tension because you know things the main character Blythe doesn’t.

A lot of serious topics but they are referenced very non explicitly. I think this is an attempt to make it softer for YA audiences

You can definitely catch the drift of where the story is going a lot earlier than the FMC does

The final whodunit didn’t REALLY make sense to me at first but I came around to it

The way everyone talks about Tucker is so exhausting and frustrating.

I think it is a standalone but I’m not positive. I kind of wish I was a series because I’d like more of all the characters but I like it as a contained story.

This is a pretty forgettable book. The characters weren't memorable, the plot was a bit obvious, the pacing wasn't very gripping. The writing style was jarring; it was very staccato, with lots and lots of short, declarative sentences. It made for an unpleasant flow.  It all combined for a meh kind of book. The only thing I'm going to remember about this book is how incredibly bad the audiobook narrator was. She spoke so slowly I had to speed it up to 3x speed, something I never do. And her voices were very annoying. The 15-year-old who sounded like she was 5 was the worst, but others sounded like a Beavis and Butthead imitation. Truly unfortunate choice that did nothing to help this book.

This book is honestly a guilty pleasure for me- but a pleasure nonetheless!

This reads as a perfect YA thriller. There are cracks in the friend group, the adults are complicit in some unknown horror against them, and it's impossible to know which clues hold truth in them. I don't want to spoil the unknown horror, but it felt like a unique idea that offers many opportunities for discussion about trauma and healing. There are a lot of elements that don't come together until the very end, which felt very Nancy Drew to me. (It's a good thing! The classic sleuth series!)

Another aspect which is Nancy Drewesque is that teenagers seem to be too good and too wise beyond their years. However, it didn't bother me or come across as insincere. (There is also the unquestioned amount of freedom these kids have, but how else could the plot get interesting?). Each character's story is also explored well enough for the reader to have a good understanding of their histories, personalities and perspectives. I was really glad for this because the friend group is very interconnected in the story and it informs the group dynamic, and also reveals how the group affects the individuals.

TW note: there are some descriptions of violence in the beginning of the novel which were more graphic than I expected.

Thank you NetGalley, Penguin Random House Canada, and Tundra Books for a copy of the book in exchange for my honest review. It's been... a pleasure.

Someone is Always Watching is a young adult thriller about teenager Blythe Warren and her circle of friends. After a tragic event that leads to their principal’s death and a friend found at the scene of the crime, Blythe and her friends’ lives begin to unravel.

This novel kept me on my toes with many twists and turns. While I do not read young adult books super often, I greatly enjoyed this one. The characters were well-written and the story flowed well. I would have loved an epilogue to share what happened to everyone after the story ended, but I still felt that it wrapped up well.

Thank you to Tundra Books and NetGalley for this ARC! All opinions are my own.

This was a entertaining psychological thriller with a hell of a mystery. This story sucked me in and made it nearly impossible to pause and do anything else while I eagerly turned pages and tried to figure out what was going on with these teenagers.
