Entertaining YA thriller. I am a huge fan of Armstrong and have never been disappointed in her work.
Once the story started to unveil in Someone is Always Watching, I was hooked. It’s the kind of thriller I love, where it includes just a bit of interpersonal relationships and romance.
Blythe and her friends don’t know who to trust, and they’re on the hunt for answers. And as the storyline goes on, you as the reader aren’t sure who to trust either. I loved Blythe as the primary narrator; she was the most reliable and you honestly just wanted her to be alright. And her relationship with Tucker was a driving force for me, I couldn’t read fast enough.
Someone is Always Watching was a quick and entertaining read with some interesting concepts regarding memories and how they shape you as a person.
Thank you to Penguin Random House for the review copy!

So wonderfully twisty turny and unexpected!!

A well done mystery about secrets in a small town. Though I did piece together a number of the twists, a final revelation about the villain genuinely surprised me. I wish the ending wasn’t quite so neat, and that there had been more grappling with the moral gray areas of what is eventually uncovered. However, this was well written with characters who were distinct and grappling with actual life or death. I wish a few characters had more time to breathe on the page—Sidney and Cassidy, in particular, disappear at the midway point and Devon is in and out of the story in a seemingly random pattern. We also don’t get enough time with Gabi to cement her as a critical member of the friend group. This is clearly Blythe and Tucker’s story and everyone else is just along for the ride.
This was a really quick read. I found it to be really engrossing. I did find the number of characters to be really confusing. I couldn't keep all the parents and their jobs straight in my head.
Kelley Armstrong wrote a definite engaging thriller. And it is one of those books that I like because I was back and forth for many parts of the novel--is this a thriller or is this a sci-fi thriller? Yes, it's one of those, and I'm not going to tell anyone which it is.
The characters are compelling, especially the supposed perfect girl and the obligatory bad boy. But is everything and everyone what they seem?
Do yourself a favor, pick up Some Is Always Watching by Kelley Armstrong. Young adult through adults. You will not be sorry!

Honestly I would have rated this book even lower. However it had small redeeming qualities when it came to character back stories. I was at the time seeking a book with a twist, and this book popped up to meet that criteria. However it had guessed the twist within the first chapter. I obviously was not the target demographic for this book, a 31 year old. This book didn’t even feel young adult as advertised. It felt middle school level. Not for me.

Another great YA by Kelley Armstrong! I listened to the audiobook. I found the narrator made the voices more juvenile than the ages of some of the characters, but other than that it was well done. The story follows a group of high school students, some experienced traumatic events as young children, and had their memories of the events in question wiped from their minds. Others had fake memories planted instead. An experiment to see what role our memories have on our future selves. For example if a child murdered someone at a young age are they destined to always be a killer, or if those memories are removed do they get a fresh start? If you like psychological thrillers, even if you don't generally read YA, I highly recommend this book!
