Joshilyn Jackson delivers another solid read with her latest novel, THE OPPOSITE OF EVERYONE. I admit , it took awhile for me to connect with the characters in the beginning of this story. I blame it a little on the set-up of her book. Rather than alternating past and present in chapter format, Jackson weaves the two stories of past and present into one chapter smoothly without transition. At first, this can be confusing, but it is worth the confusion as she weaves her reader through plot twist after plot twist of a girl growing up in a group home due to her mother's incarceration to her powerful role as a lawyer finding out that her mother has kept a big life-changing secret from her.
Follow the story of a broken little girl who feels she made the one mistake that cost her a relationship with her mother into a grown woman seeking desperately to connect with family members she never knew, with many surprises along the way.

Joshilyn Jackson is firmly ensconced in my top five favorite authors. I devoured “The Almost Sisters” and thought, “That’s going to be tough to beat.” “The Opposite of Everyone” topped it. Jackson’s style is part Wally Lamb, part Anne Rivers Siddons, and all binge-worthy.

I've loved the three other books I've read by Joshilyn Jackson, but this one wasn't the same for me. If I hadn't known it was her, I wouldn't have had any idea that this was her book. I found it boring and at times I didn't like Paula. I started to enjoy the present Paula, but then it would go back and talk about her childhood and growing up with Kai and in foster care. I didn't like these parts as much. I found them boring and couldn't wait for them to be over. I did like the ending, which is why I gave three stars instead of two.
This was a good book, but not my favorite. I was mostly just anxious to finish it. I did absolutely love the ending, and the last section leading up to it, but the beginning and middle dragged a little for me. Not a bad book by any stretch, but not my favorite by this author.
I kept getting busy, but this could be read in a day or two. I'm not normally a five-star rater, but I had dreams of Paula last night and I can't get the book out of my head.
I wish Joshilyn Jackson would narrate all the books. I love her voice, and I could listen to her read books all day long.
Wow. Lyrical. Compelling. Sad. True.
This book was so good. I was expecting it of Jackson but that this book was even better than her others. The character of Paula was so well-drawn. The stories told by Kai made me think of Paula as Kali even as I read the name Paula throughout. I highly recommend this. I have raised foster children and her description of their lives was uncanny.

I will read anything Joshilyn Jackson writes. And I’m going to reread her books I read years ago. Her books are the perfect escape.
I think this is 2.5 stars, rounded up to 3 stars. I was forcing myself to keep reading. I didn't ever connect to the main character. My favorite interactions were between Paula/Kali and Birdwine. I wish more of the story involved their interactions.
