Well that was a twist. I'm not much for thrillers. Started reading this one on accident. It's gripping and pulls you in with the who dunnit of it all.
I only had the preview for reading.
4.5 stars because I do enjoy it and want to know more, to read the whole book as it is very interesting and kept me on the edge from the beginning. It might start off as some similar books in the genre but I love to read new stories because each one has that different element that makes it bright.

The Starter Wife by Nina Laurin was absolute roller coaster of a domestic suspense book. In the beginning it was a tad confusing but as I got into it more I couldn't put it down. That ending was just crazy - and I loved it. When a book goes off on so many tangents and keeps you guessing I know it is a good book!
Claire is Byron's second wife. They seems relatively happy but the shadow of Colleen - Bryon's first wife who committed suicide- hangs over their relationship. Byron is still in love with her and Claire is threatened by her - and is not convinced that she is dead. She becomes obsessed with finding out what happened to her - literally stopping at nothing to find out the truth. You won't believe where this one goes. Highly recommended.
Thanks to Netgalley and Hodder and Stoughton for my advanced copy of this book to read. All opinions are my own and are in no way biased.

Alright. Kept me guessing until the final third.
The Starter Wife was a roller coaster of twists and turns for me. I loved the unreliable characters and trying to guess how the story would unfold.
Going into this book, I didn’t know what to expect, other than a woman named Colleen had disappeared, with a suspected suicide, and her husband left to unravel the clues to her disappearance.
As with most mystery/thriller novels, it’s best to go in with as little details to avoid any spoilers, which is what I did.

I’ve never read a Nina Laurin book before but let me tell you after reading this one I will be grabbing more of her books! This book had so many twists and turns and had my head spinning! Meet Claire she’s married to Byron whose a college professor. She fills her day drinking, shopping and working on her book that keeps getting declined by publishers. Byron was married before Claire to a painter named Colleen. Colleen committed suicide and Claire always feels like she’s always being compared to Colleen. You see Claire and Byron still live in Colleen’s huge house and their living off of colleens money from her estate and her paintings still fill the house. Claire feels like her marriage is on the rocks, Byron has been acting distant and coming home late and not paying any attention to her. Claire decides to investigate what really happened to Colleen was it really suicide? Her body was never found. Soon Claire becomes obsessed and she’s stopping at nothing to get to the bottom of it. When mysterious messages beginning to appear and disappear in text messages and emails she wonders if she’s going crazy or is Colleen alive? This book had me guessing the whole time. The chapters would alternate from Claire’s story and someone whose stalking her and determined to get rid of her. I give this four stars! I didn’t know who to believe but the ending was shocking!
-Maybe 2.5 Stars...
Obsession gone wrong with a unsatisfying ending.

I don't think the events at the beginning fit with the plot twist at all.
However, this was fun and fast-paced so I did enjoy it.

If Claire killer Colleen, why is she spending half the book looking for her killer? However, this was fun and fast-paced so I did enjoy it.
"What a burden true love is. No one will ever understand. They will all think I'm crazy, insane, psychotic, but what else is love but madness? Isn't that what all the great novels are about?"
This book was honestly a bit of a Gone Girl wannabe but with its own original elements. It managed to surprise me even though I've read my fair share of domestic thrillers. Although a little slow at the beginning, it gradually started to pick up and I wanted to keep flipping the pages to find out what happened next.
There were a few good twists and while I understand that

some of the earlier murders were kept vague so that it would be up to the reader's imagination, I would have liked more details about how each murder was carried out. And while I enjoyed the twists, I would not say they were subtle or mind-blowing. In fact, I had the impression that some parts of the book were deliberately kept vague and confusing for the twists/big reveal to work.I also felt a little let down by the ending because I was hoping for more and wanted it to be more conclusive.
Looking forward to the author's other works.
