Well that was brilliant. A host of glorious characters, wonderful plotlines and beautiful writing, even better on a reread!
(Also, I think Tommy Traddles is quite possibly the best character in existence.)

Sometimes funny, poignant, sometimes boring and way too long

I can't say enough good things about this novel. It made me wish we still read novels in serialization today, because it was so much fun to read each chapter and wait to see what would happen the next time I picked up the book. I began listening to it while knitting- then, it got so good that I had to take it out of the library and race through the last 300 pages (my copy had almost 900 pages total).

I loved it!! I love Dickens. This was almost as good as Great Expectations (and certainly more complex- it was on par with Wolf Hall for me, as there were so many characters and story-lines). Everybody should want a Peggotty in their life. There is so much love in this book, that I think anyone would be a better person upon finishing it.

A deeply human story about the vicissitudes of life (iykyk).

It's one of the 100 Books To Read Before You Die for a good reason - the beloved classic stands the test of time and has inspired many retellings throughout the years.

As many classics are, this was originally published as a serial over the course of a year, and could therefore benefit from a bit of editing. After (finally) finishing, I am charmed - but tired.

p.s. I would do literally anything for Peggoty, and Betsy Trotwood is a feminist icon.

What a sweet book, no less charming for being a little predictable. I would be interested to know just how much of the story is drawn from Dickens' own experiences

I always enjoy Dickens, probably mostly due to his amazing characters and decadent and engrossing language. This book meets one's expectations. Several characters will stick with me for years to come and I imagine I will see them reflected in some that I will meet in the future.
