yeah you can tell young CD was paid by the instalment for this one but it’s still pretty good, if insanely long and repetitive.

They say that reading allows you to live many lives, and that is certainly true for David Copperfield.

Following David on his journey all the way from a young boy to a succesful author—seeing his growth and that of the eccentric characters he meets, the way all their lives interwine—has been a real pleasure. I love Dickens' writing style. It has so much character and his personality shines through it. The constant commentary from the author is hilarious and really sells the autobiography aspect. Each of the characters is unique, feels real and has their own distinct voice, so that you remember them even if they show up again after a couple hundred pages.

Starting this book was a bit daunting, but I was quickly swept up in it and I genuinely loved reading it.

Dickens created masterpiece after masterpiece, and I will eat every single one of them up.

This is one of those times when I can appreciate that the book was influencial, probably greatly impacted the development of the novel form, and I can see where the value lies, but I didn't really enjoy it. It's a little dull.

Although I know Dickens was revolutionary for the time in his psychologically rich characters, David himself rings a little silly and naive.

Extense, sometimes boring or difficult to follow, but still a classic. I liked reading how David's character was developing and changing, not always agreeable, not always sensible.
