The illustrations are fantastic! They depict the characters and scenes wonderfully.

Excellent edition!!
Highly recommend Richard Armitage reading of this classic.

I almost dumped this one in the middle because it is SO long and I wasn't sure my level of enjoyment would make it worth it. But I ended up trying another couple chapters and getting sucked back in. Dickens writes such wonderful, vivid, memorable characters. There's humor and occasionally a bit of description so good it's like finding a jewel. I'm glad I stuck it out. I ended up feeling very invested in these characters and their lives

Took me til about 1/3 the way through to really get into the book, but when I did, oh I did not want to put it down, I did not want it to end!
Did I understand everything written? No.
Did that reduce my enjoyment of the book? Not at all.
David Copperfield was a much needed companion to me and Dicken’s illustrious characterisation a marvel to read.

What more can be said about Dickens? He is revered for a reason. Amazing characters, as story which doesn't let you go. And he grabs a hold of the reader's emotions and doesn't let go. I am angry about the injustices, by the parasitic people and bureaucracies. Frustrated by a character's naivety, or the ways in which others are constrained by society's expectations. Re-read after too long and reminded again what an amazing author Dickens was.

Shoutout to Simon Vance’s narration for getting me through the book—I listened while I read, and was very grateful for the experience.

Often times reading this, I would find myself looking up chapter summaries, to ensure I understood what was happening. There’s a lot of context missed if you are unfamiliar with the 1800s, such as the state of classism, industrialism, etc. I found reading some of these summaries/analysis brought context that I lacked, and made me appreciate more what I read.

Once I settled into this long book, I found reading it enjoyable. I started to not mind the slow and tangential nature of the writing, and felt like I was being told an epic story about the life of one man. There are many unforgettable characters—the Murdstones, Heep, Peggotty, Dora, etc. I feel like I’ll be able to recall them and their story for quite a while.
