I put off reading this book for so long. I just wasn't ready to say goodbye to these characters... But man did I enjoy the ride!! Slate, Cadence, and the gang are back with more Quatrefoil shenanigans. No one is safe while they fight a different battle on every level of Brume. Level 2 was the absolute WORST! Ahhhh! I did love the ending they all got but I'm sad to see them go.

Both authors have produced a very well built and thought of story plot. The mystery and web of controversy are sewn flawlessly.

From book one to two, I have enjoyed how this magical town takes its root in me. I love Cadence’s pure and loving heart, Adrien’s protective soul, Gaelle’s motherly care and love, and Slate’s broken yet faithful heart.

The chemistry between Cadence and Slate is electrifying. A touch seems to translate into more while reading it. That’s how good the romance has been set but, take note, doesn’t revolve majorly on romance.

So, I really love Slate. Super rooting for him. I love his broken and flawed character. His rough upbringing and experiences strengthens him and makes him guarded but he never loses his heart. It shows how he protects and loves Bastian. And I love how as the story progresses he opens and welcomes everything.

Listening to the first audiobook was such a treat, that I was immediately excited for the second book. I couldn't wait till it came out and was really happy to see it appear on Audible! I'm actually a bit confused at how little people have read the first book in this series, and I feel like these two authors deserve much, much more!

The Quatrefoil Chronicles is such a fun series of (for now) two books that are easy and quick to read. If you love those adventurous quest kind of fantasy books, this is definitely your cup of tea. I also love how these two authors could just easily blend their writing into something that feels so smooth!

Well this book took a turn that I definitely did not expect. Now, I will say the beginning of the story started exactly how I would have expected, especially with how book 1 ended. But it took a very surprising turn that I absolutely loved.

I loved the two main characters that this story revolves ar round. We get to know Slate & Cadence so much more in this book, these characters have really grown so much since the start of book 1 & I really enjoyed their development.

This book is definitely more YA then NA, so there is no steamy scenes, but even without this, the relationships in here are so well developed.

Finally, I had the pleasure to listen to this as an audiobook and I loved every minute of it. Both narrators did an amazing job bringing the story to life.

Book 2 of the Quatrefoil Chronicles duet definitely did not disappoint. After surviving, but not restoring magic during the quatrefoil trials, Cadence finds herself second guessing and regretting not trying again. But the overall consensus is that with so many close calls and near deaths, no one else is keen on jumping on that train again any time soon. Slate is finding himself happy in Brume, albeit constantly freezing his butt off, but with Cadence by his side, and finally knowing about his past, he feels like he has a home somewhere. But Cadence makes a rash, and very one-sided decision, to try again, forcing everyone’s hand when she puts on the ring and puts things in motion again. While no one wanted to go through any of this again, no one is going to let her do it alone, especially Slate.

So the gang sets off on another set of trials, first to regain Cadence’s leaf, and then onto a whole other set of challenges to prove their worthiness to return magic to the world. There is tons of action, close calls, near misses, and curses. The pace is fast and furious, and no one is safe. I feel like in the scheme of things, Slate had the biggest challenge to overcome, and it really brought out the best in him in the end. But the team as a whole pulled together really cohesively, despite everything the quatrefoil magic threw at them. And on top of everything else, the quatrefoil was clearly pointing them towards another mystery at the heart of the village and it’s magic, which unfolded quite nicely - not necessarily completely unpredictable, but it definitely was done in a way that kept things very interesting throughout. It was also really interesting as well to see how the events unfolded and effected the team differently from those in the village who weren’t directly connected to the magic. And even knowing that it was all magic based, that spider sequence was just…. {{shudders}}.

There were a lot of moving parts to this story to bring it all to a conclusion, and to be fair, it was probably a little too perfect of an ending, but really, I’m a sucker for a happy ending, and I liked how everything played out in the end. It was a very satisfying finish to the story, and if you like a good magic based urban fantasy mythos with a good underlying mystery, you’ll enjoy this series.
