Woman. Freaking. Power. The audio book for this was awesome. Would love another volume!
I appreciate the idea behind this and the premise, but they minimized the accomplishments of so many women. It felt lacking to me, it could still be a children’s story and give more details to the important women and what they did, where they found their inspiration, and why it matters. I felt like it glossed over SO MUCH in order to be a children’s book and could have been so much better.
Oh boy, this book is very tricky. Whilst I like the concept, I was very surprised how some women were on this book at all like those women who helped "won" the war, or whose only contribution was to be a queen. How are they lumped in the same category with actual inspirational and commendable women? Another thing that I wished they would have done is to just focus on fewer women but instead make a more detailed story of their lives and how they came to be.
This is one of the most beautiful books I own with such an important message. Definitely getting this for my little cousin!
En tiedä olenko se vain minä, vai onko tämä kirja hivenen jäljessä siitä, mitä siltä tässä päivässä erityisesti kaivattaisiin? Satukirja tuo esiin 100 merkkinaisen tarinan upeiden kuvitusten kanssa, mutta voiko 2010-luvulla vielä sanoa, että "tytöstäkin voi tulla presidentti"? Voiko 100 naisen avulla tehdä kirjan, jossa muistutetaan, että "kapinallinen tyttö voi olla mitä tahans"? Onko presidenttiys siis automaattisesti miesten etuoikeus, jos "tytötkin voi" ja mikä on hiljaisen ja kapinoimattoman tytön asema, jos maailma on kuitenkin ennen kaikkea eniten miesten?
En tarkoita, että tämän kirjan pitäisi tasa-arvokysymyksiä ratkaista, mutta olisin toivonut tältä enemmän terävyyttä, tarkkuutta ja no, kapinallisuutta. Olisin toivonut, ettei naiset jälleen kerran olisi menestyneet suhteessa miehiin, tehneet isiään ylpeiksi tai kyenneet ennennäkemättömään miehistä huolimatta. Etenkin kun sadasta muutama tarina alkoi vielä jotain ihan satunnaista miestä kuvaten, yksikin myi tacoja lähellä tenniskenttää, jossa Williamsin sisarukset lapsena harjoittelivat. Kenen tarinoita näiden siis nyt pitikään olla?

Sencillamente diré que este libro es necesario para todo el mundo. Las mujeres han luchado desde siempre por ser reconocidas por los hombres, aunque muchos crean que esta lucha solo tiene, quizás, unos pocos años. Y esa es una de las grandes falacias de la historia.
En este libro vemos cómo muchísimas mujeres han luchado contra los estándares de la sociedad y contra su propia familia en muchos casos, por cumplir sus sueños. Sueños que, dependiendo de qué época vivieron, eran solo alcanzables para los hombres.
Puedo decir que muchas de estas historias las conocía, porque desde pequeña he sido siempre una niña muy curiosa a la que le ha gustado ver documentales (una de las grandes cosas que me inculcó mi abuelo, ser curiosa y ver muchos documentales sobre cualquier tema). Me ha sorprendido recordar muchas de ellas, porque me han traido grandes recuerdos. Otras las desconocía totalmente. Otras, lamentablemente, han estado en las noticias durante meses, hace ya algunos años, por lo que era inevitable no recordarlas.
La estructura del libro es perfecta para los más pequeños de la casa: la historia de cada una de estas mujeres resumida de forma muy breve y fácil, junto con una ilustración preciosa.
Es, en definitiva, un libro que tanto niños como niñas, deben leer. Niñas, para saber que esta lucha por la igualdad entre ambos sexos ha estado siempre presente y para que vean que ellas pueden también seguir sus sueños. Y para los niños, para ver qué injusticias han sufrido las mujeres desde hace años y para que aprendan, que ambos sexos podemos hacer lo mismo.

Wow what a lovely book both in content and it's physical copy. I bought it for my daughter with the hopes she grows up to emulate the amazing women within its pages. It's so much more diverse than I even imagined - THANK YOU! I couldn't put it down after my daughter made it through her first nighttime story

Bereits nach dem ich das Buch geöffnet habe fielen mir die vielen verschiedenen Zeichnungen der verschiedensten Künstler auf. Jede Frau wurde von einem anderen Künstler in seinem Stil wiedergegeben. Das lässt mein Künstler Herz natürlich höher schlagen.
Ein Wirkich absolut tolles Buch das nicht nur für "jung" sonder auch "alt" begeistert und inspirieren kann. Das Buch macht einfach Laune und es ist sicherlich schön wenn man es Jugend Mädchen zum lesen gibt oder vorliest.
Für mich ein definitives Lese Highlight!
Das Cover finde ich wirklich gelungen. Besonders aber die Innengestaltung des Buches gefällt mir sehr gut. Ich bin absolut verliebt in die Bilder der verschiedenen Künstler.
Ein einmaliges Buch. Nicht nur mit seinen Geschichten sondern auch mit seiner Kunst kann es begeistern. Für Jung und Alt geeignet und auch sicherlich schön wenn man es Vorliest.

Es un libro muy hermoso, por las historia que cuenta y por el diseño que hay en sus páginas. Es un libro con 100 historias de mujeres que dejaron sus huellas, que se animaron a todo y abrieron puertas al resto de las mujeres, es un libro lleno de mensajes pequeños y grandes que todos deberían leer. Quede encantada de leerlo y a pesar que las biografías son muy breves y solo cuentan algunos detalles de la vida de estas mujeres, no solo te llena sino que también te deja con ganas de saber mas de ellas, de continuar conociendolas y de conocer mas historias, mas logros, mas emociones, a mi me emocionó mucho leerlo y por eso se los recomiendo, es un libro que se lee rapido y marca.
So I fancied getting through a few shorter reads in order to catch up a little with my TBR and Reading Challenge this year, and I recently acquired this book which has really peaked my interest! Mat and I saw it while out and about in a bookshop and fell in love with the illustrations and idea behind it, so I knew I needed a copy of my own! After finally getting hold of it, and occasionally reading a random 'story' now and again, I finally found time to settle down and read them all through properly. It was a lovely experience and I have to say, I'm impressed with the amount of work that went into the book, and that it was as a result of a very successful Kickstarter. It definitely gives me great joy that such a book was in very high demand!
The basic premise of the book was of course that famous women from long ago, more recent history, and even the present day are getting their stories told in an imaginative way, so that young girls are listening to bedtime stories that are about women achieving things rather than waiting to be 'rescued'. I loved this idea, and their are some great examples from throughout history: obvious examples included Elizabeth I, Malala Yousafzai, Cleopatra, the Bronte Sisters, Marie Curie and Michelle Obama (missing Joan of Arc though...shame!), while other great stories from less prominent figures were also given attention, such as Almna Al Haddad, Brenda Chapman, Hypatia, Michaela Deprince, etc. I loved the diversity of women included, who came from all over the world and all walks of life. There's a story to inspire all in here - no matter your ethnicity, sexuality or gender orientation (Kat Coy's story was beautiful).
I wish the stories had been longer. They are designed to be reinvented fairy tales of course - but I wanted more details anyway! There are so many things that could have been included from each person's life that ended up being scrapped! I also felt that most of the stories didn't really 'end' in an interesting way, and the quotes attributed to each woman were either wonderful or fell flat in my eyes. I also felt that some of the figures were interesting choices, Margaret Thatcher being one such example as she is very unpopular for fairly good reasons, but then they never paint her as a heroine. They merely suggest that her 'iron' will is to be commended. This was, after all, a book about women achieving things and being proactive/taking control! A gorgeous entry into the literary world for young feminists, and one that I certainly plan to read to any children I might have in the future!
