My own fault for reading the UNABRIDGED version...... alit of singing of songs and Latin.... alot of random Latin. You can tell Hugo was paid by the word. Alot of rattling off street names and listing of money that people have in their pockets. Think, "two dollar bills, and a five dollar bill. Then, of course, came a 20 dollar bill. Just one. Just one twenty dollar bill. The coins jangled. There were 4 quarters, ah round cold quarters! And just four of them"....

 I didnt really enjoy it to be honest. I liked the writing and appreciated the humor, but everything else fell flat. The characters started out great and interesting, but

all of them falling so head over heel in love, until their death felt so illogical

. Maybe Im just not a romantic. Also, as good as the prose was, it doesnt justify a max 300page story to be a 600page book. Excessive descriptions and long tangents just killed it, whenever it was picking up steam. At the end I was just wishing everybody (but Djali) dies and we get it over with. 
The 2.75 is because I really enjoyed the prose and the vibe

-0,25 pour le chapitre où il fait une analyse sur l'architecture détrônée par l'imprimerie qu'il débute par "nos lectrices nous pardonneront"... sinon bravo gt hooked du début à la fin. je tiens aussi à souligner la bêtise des critiques des amerloques sur ce bouquin sur ce site c trop grave
