4.04 AVERAGE

A perfect book to read with your brain shut-off from logic and breeze through the grating mental maturity of late teen characters.
The concept and the plot is so intriguing and fun but the characters are a little annoying. Still a four stars for being acceptably entertaining.

I’ve had this as a paperback for years. Picked it up at the works I think because you know me.. time travel even hinted and ping.. I’m there!
Well anyway, suddenly saw the audio on my library app, so thought what the hell..

It’s as expected, a fun, but dangerous romp through time with things thrown at the main characters left right & centre. Was going great until the ending pulled a Harry Houdini…

I know it’s a trilogy but still! You don’t end the first one what feels like half way through a sentence! So I’m removing half a star for that.

Also be aware these are a little hard to get your hands on. Obviously now having read one and there not being an online audiobook only very expensive cds, I looked for paperback. They are also very hard to hard to find, and do check your copy is translated from the original German

I love this book I cant even lie. Maybe its nostalgia, or maybe its a genuinely well written love interest and the way it correlates with my love for historical fashion : >
Definitely a huge comfort read for me and I know imma keep coming back to this series over n over again 🥰🥰

The story line of the circle and the twelve time travels felt fairly unique and original. Though, all the secrets being kept were VERY annoying. The novel just sort of ended, and I honestly felt like there should have been a few more pages to fully wrap up a few small things. I understand that this is the first of a trilogy, but the ending felt rather rushed.

I liked Gwen, but she asked a lot of wrong questions - while not demanding answers - and didn't grab onto a few major clues that slapped me in the face. I also enjoyed her friend, Lesley Hay, who helped out by Googling a lot of things for Gwen. (I loved that Lesley kept looking things up via search engines, because that is something I would do.) The other characters were either a bit flat or tropes: clearly Count Saint-Germain is shady as all get out, clearly Gideon and the other members of the Lodge cannot fully be trusted (mostly because they have been brainwashed by Saint-Germain), and clearly Lucy and Paul are the good guys that Gwen should be allying herself with.

All that said, it is a really fun and quick read that was rather enjoyable. 3/5 stars.
