I really enjoyed this book! I think the world and magic is fun and the characters are entertaining. The reason that I gave this book 3.5 out of 5 stars is because I don’t think the plot for the book was very succinct. For example, there wasn’t a mini plot for this book to help it have a clear beginning, middle, and ending. I think the plot of the whole series is going to be good, but I wish that this book was either longer to accommodate a more conclusive ending or that the plot was better thought out. In addition to this, I think the ending was rushed. It was almost like the author thought, oh crap! I need to give the readers a little bit of romance so that they’ll want to come back for more with the second book. Simply put, I think this book needed to be longer so that there was a clear and clean plot, and so that the readers weren’t left wondering how the relationship developed so quickly.
If I read this book when it came out and had to wait a year for the next book to come out I don’t think I wouldn’t had enough left investment to seek out the next book once it was released.

It had me hooked and I was really enjoying it, then it just ended. I know it's part of a series but the end of this one should have been more satisfying.

Eine schöne leichte Geschichte, liest sich super weg. Aber das Ende? Wow! Ich muss unbedingt wissen, wie es weiter geht.
I usually love time travel books and when I picked this one up I though it would be no exception. Sadly I was incorrect. The book started out pretty strong or at least with a cool premise. (honestly it felt very witchy to me but whatever) but then the further along you go the more convoluted it became. I was confused in places and it felt like the author wasn’t exactly sure where she was going with this book. It all felt very strange and yes I knew this is the first in a trilogy but it did not make me interested or curious to continue the story.
I did like some of the characters though which is why I gave it 2 stars because I felt the main character was strong. She was fun and believed as a person and as a narrator. It was nice to follow the story though her eyes. She was the saving grace of this book for me.
If you are a person who loves time travel along with romance then this is the book for you but if you are person who is more into the Doctor Wh kind of time travel then I would pass on this book.

Heerlijk luchtig boek om te lezen. Super vermakelijk verhaal, gelijk spannend met leuke personages.
Het voelt wel echt als een soort introductie in dit wereldje....dus dat wordt toch snel deel 2 lezen.

Now I am very skeptical of time traveling books. I hated The Time Travelers Wife, absolutely hated it. I would rather burn that book than read it again. However, Ruby Red was surprisingly good. It definitely has me rethinking about time traveling books altogether (and no I will not re-read the time travelers wife every again in my life).
This book is about Gwyneth Shepherd, who is a sixteen year old girl, and her adventures from traveling through time. Unfortunately, for Gwen she wasn't really prepared to go through this type of situation. On the other hand, her cousin Charlotte has been trained all her life for it. Unexpectedly, Gwen travels while in class and that's where her adventure starts off. Along the way she has to work with the insufferable Gideon.
Oh Gideon, I disliked his character so much in the beginning. He, of course, had a thing for Charlotte (who I hated so much) and just talked down to Gwyneth constantly. Like I get it. Not every partnership starts off amazing but you can't always choose your partner either. Towards the end of the book the relationship between Gideon and Gwyneth has changed drastically. They both realized that they need each other a lot more than they originally thought. So of course, Gideon becomes more bearable because he has a different attitude towards Gwen.
Other than Gideon, there is the lovely Charlotte. As previously mentioned in the paragraph above, I HATED her character sooooooooooooooooo much. She was so arrogant and took everything for granted, especially Gwen. I wish I could reach into the book and slap her. I also hated that everyone in the family treated Charlotte better because she was the "gene" carrier, which is really stupid. When the family realizes that Gwen is the actual traveler it's like a huge middle finger to them and I LOVED that. I hope there is more of that in the next book.
I wish the book ended differently because it seemed so short!! I need more!! I loved Gwen's character so much. Her friendship with Lesley was written perfectly. Also, I really liked how there wasn't a lot of romance in this book. I'm assuming in the next book that will probably be the case (I hope I wont be disappointed). I can't wait to read the next book in the trilogy Sapphire Blue!!

This book is adorable, it's sweet but also fast paced and fun. Sometimes a little too fast however it was still fun.
I really did try not to immediately read the next book (I want to make people wait a year between Harry Potter novels) but I couldn't stop myself. The whole book is a lead in to the trilogy, not much is revealed about the mystery of the chronograph and Count St. Germain. Gwenyth has just the right amount of sass and curiosity to go along with time travel but doesn't take anything they tell her to heart. She's set on finding out the truth, no matter how things are Supposed to be done.
