I finally got around to finishing Beach Read, guys! It’s been on my TBR since December 2021, but I finally did it.

I tried reading this one on the heels of People We Meet On Vacation, and it just was not working for me. I loved Alex and Poppy SO much, and January and Gus just weren’t hitting it off for me at that time. BUT I am very glad that I put it down, gave it some time, and finally came back to it. I ended up enjoying the story overall.

Just like with PWMOV, I absolutely adored the plethora of pop culture references in this book, and as things progressed, Gus really grew on me. Both characters had a lot of pain, angst, and heavy emotions to work through, but it was neat seeing how those feelings manifested so differently for each of them.

The complexity of learning to navigate broken/fractured relationships was well-explored and translated well on the page. I also appreciated the stereotypical rom-com moments sprinkled throughout, and I loved that they were purposefully called out. Overall, I think it’s a great read, with or without a beach

Very easy read. Romance was a little bit cliche but bearable, and the rest of the plot was just intriguing enough to keep me interested.

Heartfelt romance. Can’t remember anything now. Just that I had a great time.
