I overall enjoyed this book, it was just a little too slow of pace for me though, took a few weeks to finish. Not sure if I will finish the series or not.

Don't go into reading this book for a fun "take your mind off things" read. Perhaps my review of it is so poor for that reason. I was between two very busy semesters in college and purchased this book as an easy read. I had not read any of Gregory Maguire's books before so I didn't know what I was in for. It is heavily laden with strong political themes and issues. There were very dark and strange parts to the book. I just wasn't in for the politics when I decided to read it. My roommate however loved it and has read all of his work. To each his own I suppose.
