Okei, man kan ikke sammenligne den med musikalen. Men som en egen fantasybok så syns jeg den er for treig og for rotete. Det er for mye uinteressant som skjer og som distraherer.

So this had been on my TBR list for years, because I'd seen it on lists of banned books, and personally I feel like banned books often have important truths or unique viewpoints worth reading about. However, I was expecting more of a fluffy, female friendship piece than the strongly political and moral treatise that the book actually is. Had I known what I was in for, I think it would have been far more enjoyable- that just wasn't the type of read I was looking for at the moment.

With that being said, I still had to give it a high rating because Maguire really did an excellent job exploring timeless human themes. Can good people do evil things, and conversely, evil people do good things? Is there such thing as a good/evil person or thing? Who decides what is good and evil? Why do we as humans tend to label anything that is other as evil? Who deserves forgiveness and who has the right to give it?

While the book was written in 1995, it is still extremely relevant, and I hope that people keep talking about it and the ideas it explores for decades to come. Perhaps once I'm recovered from it I'll give the movie or musical a try :)

It wasn’t what I was expecting. I really was expecting it to be more like the musical or movie, but it’s just so different with so many characters and scenes that don’t exist in the musical. It was also weirdly raunchy

Tragic, but beautiful. I found Elphaba to be very sympathetic, and she causes a lot of her own problems.
