I had a good time reading this book. It was a bit hard to get into at first and it is very different to the musical so don't expect anything remotely similar to it.
I liked the story, I enjoyed following the characters and learning about Oz.
It's definitely a book I had to be in the mood to read, but I binged it over two sittings as once I started I didn't want to put it down.
I liked this book but didn't love it, which is why I knocked off a star. I want to continue the series as I did really enjoy it.
I liked that the characters are older meaning themes along politics, religion, relationships, etc. all are much more in depth and mature which I wasn't expecting and was pleasantly surprised by.
I enjoyed the backstory but especially the years at Shiz in the Emerald City were some of the most interesting parts to me. I liked her in the Vinkus too where she stayed with Fiyero's family.
It can be a bit much sometimes as it feels like there is too much information and a lot of characters so it can be overwhelming. You can miss crucial things so easily as there is a lot going on, I often would double back to read bits as a character can die in an off comment and you may not fully clock it at first. It can be like that at times so if you're a fast reader you often need to either slow down or reread bits.
I hope the future books will be easier in this regard though as some of the world and people won't need to be introduced and explained as much.
I like how it ties in Dorothy, I didn't know she featured at all and I liked her at the end of it.

This is a review of only as far as I got. I bounced off, hard. Love the musical, the movie was good. It's hard to believe this was the source material.
