i don’t know. like it was good? it definitely wasn’t bad. but with how cool the concept was i feel like could’ve been much better?? i still enjoyed reading it, just felt a little mediocre about it :/
I have always enjoyed Greek Mythology which drew me to this book, but I was very disappointed. This book felt extremely slow to me. There were some reveals that happened that were a bit surprising, but also some that you felt coming and weren’t shocked by. I felt like I kept missing something that the characters were finally understanding and I’m not sure if that was bad writing or if I was over the book and didn’t seem to care. The ending was just abrupt and felt meaningless.
Wow, that was pretty amazing. This reminded me a little bit of the War on the Gods series by A.P. Mobley, but it was probably a bit darker than that. It was sort of like a cross between the Hunger Games and War on the Gods with a bit more emphasis on the ugly aspects of war and sacrifice. But don't get me wrong--it was not a war book. The focus was on Lore and her friends and uneasy alliances as they fight to survive the Agon, which is a 7-day event that happens every 7 years when 9 of the Gods who betrayed Zeus will walk the earth in mortal forms and their houses have to survive to be the last ones standing. Several of the houses have already died off at the start of this book, and Lore is the last of her line, the house of the Perseides (Perseus). She has spent the last 7 years in hiding and trying to avoid the world of the Agon, but she is quickly sucked back in. This is an action-packed story and there is definitely a fair bit of death, but somehow the story is energizing and by the end, I was moved to tears, but not all in a bad way. I loved the ending and thought this was a great stand-alone novel. At 546 pages, it's a fairly hefty novel, but it's the perfect length for a serious stand-alone story. The author did a great job researching all the various myths and the story was both well-written and well-thought-out. I have not read her books before, but I will definitely check out her Darkest Minds trilogy after this!

March 2022:
I just finished listening to the audiobook and I think I had forgotten just how much I loved this book. Lore is an amazing heroine and I loved watching her navigate the Agon and trying to help not just herself to survive (although she really just wants to get out), but especially to protect her friends and the city that she loves. This is one of the best spin-offs on Greek mythology that I've read and it's an amazing stand-alone novel. Even though I read this over a year ago, I had forgotten enough of the twists and turns that this listening still brought me some surprises. I highly recommend this one, especially if you like mythology.

I LOVE Greek Mythology. But I did not like this.
Here's why. You get the sense that Greek Gods are all great and mighty and powerful, yes?
Every seven years, for seven days, Petty Ass Zeus sends the gods to the mortal realm to be hunted like game.
So Apollo isn't even really Apollo. It might be a guy named Jason who just so happened to have a lucky shot and he slaughtered the god when it was time to hunt the gods. Now he has Apollo power.
DNF'd 23% in.
A+ on the BEAUTIFUL artwork, though.

Lore by Alexandria Bracken
Rating: 5 / 5
Summary: When they defied Zeus, nine gods were forced to walk on earth without their immortality for 7 days every 7 years. These gods are then hunted by those wanting power, bloodlines were formed. Lore Perseus is the descendant of the Perseus bloodline. She left that life far behind her when her family were murdered….unless she didn't. The past has a tendency to catch up to you. And when a god shows up at her door asking for help and offering her revenge, it seems that the fates aren't willing to let her out of their grasp so easily.
Rating: Okay I'll admit that i judged this book by its summary. I did not believe that i would enjoy it and was very hesitant to start reading it. I finally did and it was amazing. I loved this book. It's Greek mythology meets the hunger games and it was done so well.
Bracken did a great job developing this world. It wasn't hard to dive into and even if you're not a big mythology need this book made the world easy to jump into. The plot was really well developed and never once did it feel like it dragged on. It was fast paced and kept you hooked right from the start. The plot twist were so expertly thrown in. They caught me completely off guard and i loved them.
The characters were amazing. It wasn't hard to get attached to Lore and to root for her. There were some parts where i didn't like her but that was just all a part of the plan. It was really amazing to see her develop over the course of the book.
The side characters were also surprisingly easy to get attached to. Why do i always end up more attached to the side characters then the main character? Good news, none of my favorite side characters died. Which is good thank you Bracken i ñove you.
It was really amazing to see the interactions between all of the characters. The friend group complimented each other so nicely.
This book was just amazing. I'm a big Greek mythology need and it had been a long while since i had read any Greek mythology based stories. So this was a warm welcome home.
Oh! Also how could I forget. There was lgbtqia+ representation int this!!! It wasn't a main focus of the story but it was there. I loved that it wasn't a huge deal. There was a part where Milo (lore's Roommate) had to talk his love interest through a realization which i loved. Milo and his love interest are my favorite ship from this book.
Rep: queer side characters
TWs: themes of sexual assault, child brides, and mentions rape/attempted rape

I so badly wanted to like this book, but can only give ut a 2.5/2.75. It has everything in it that I love: greek gods, strong fmc’s, found family, and even some romance, and yet it ended up confusing me more than anything else. There was so much going on at all times, and I just didn’t love how it ended. Some things made no sense until right before the ending which frustrated me. It was also so long. Ik it’s a standalone but I just couldn’t get into it.
This was incredible. I might write a proper review at a later date but all I can say right now is that Im gonna feel a solid book hangover from this. Im going to miss the characters. The storyline was incredible - from premise to execution, even if the book felt very *long* at times. And the ending was exactly what I needed it to be. Lore and Cas have my heart. ❤️
