This had the foundations of a story I would love, but ultimately it fell flat. While the concept was interesting - a Greek Gods deadly curse spanning over centuries? Solid. But I was very bored reading this; I felt that despite things happening, they never amounted to anything grand. And I also had no connection to the characters. The main character and her history wasn't built up in the beginning, so when prominent people from her past returned, I had no emotional connection to them because they were never mentioned before. I'm sad I didn't enjoy this, but you can't win them all!

First and foremost, I want to applaud Ms. Bracken for tackling the Greek myths in a way no one's ever considered before. It's refreshing to open your eyes to the gods in such a way you've never considered. Not to mention the entire heroic journey! It turns everything upside down and inside out, leaving you teetering on the edge of uncomfortable - which is brilliant! That's the way writing is supposed to make you feel! Through the pages, I found myself with the book at the edges of my fingertips, my spine crawling, and my teeth on edge. But she got my thoughts out of their comfort zone, and I can't thank her enough. That said, I wish she hadn't fallen into predictable patterns. (Or have I read too many Greek tales?) You know where betrayals will come from, and it took away from the enjoyment of the story to see pieces falling where you expect.
SpoilerAnd she left me with a glaring question. Apollo sacrificed his life and the connection with his sister. So why didn't the Agon cease at that point? It seemed like a giant loophole, simply because he lacked a physical object to throw away.
All in all, though, Ms. Bracken's created a cut-throat world you still find yourself leaning towards and wanting to experience. She deserves applause and accolades (a laurel wreath?) for her work.
